Multi-functional beauty products like plumping lip gloss and tinted lip balm showed the highest growth over the year at 44%. That’s one impressive stat! The success was attributed to their convenience and perceived value over traditional makeup products.

So what does this mean for makers? Well, lip gloss is inexpensive to create and has a relatively low price point for the consumer. Popular beauty brands such as Tower 28, Fenty, and Lawless have capitalized on this craze and are earning praise from customers and industry leaders alike.
Whether you want to start a lip gloss business or add lip gloss to your existing product line, Makesy’s ingredients, supplies, and recipe guides make it affordable and easy!
pricing & profit
Here’s a quick break down of your startup costs. With an 8oz lip gloss base you can make 25 units of lip gloss (8ml per unit). The base, color, and packaging will cost you around $90 (~ $3.60/unit).
With popular brands selling for between $24-$40 each, we suggest you start selling your lip gloss for around $16 each. You could price yours higher or lower depending on your target market but we’ve seen small businesses have success pricing their products slightly under larger brands.
This means your initial investment could gross $400 in total sales (>400% ROI).
That’s not all! You can add an all-natural lip plumping blend, extra fine mica and flavor to your lip gloss line. The materials would cost less than an additional $20 ($110 total; <$4.60/unit) which would still net more than a 350% ROI!

First, let’s go over the basic supplies you’re going to need & suggested usage percentages:
- Lip gloss base: a vegan, cruelty-free lip gloss base that is high shine, non-sticky, and naturally hydrates and nourishes lips. Use at 85% – 100% of your recipe.
- Lip pigment: pick from our 8 lip pigment shades (see swatch examples below for suggested percentages).
Optional enhancers:
- Extra fine mica: our 3 extra fine micas are smaller in size so they don’t settle while in solution (1-3%).
- Actives: our suggested active is the all-natural lip plumping blend which has instant lip plumping and long term wrinkle filling benefits (when used at 3%)
- Flavors: add 0.5% – 1.0% of your favorite flavor!
