Whatever the occasion—or for no other reason than being your pawtastic best friend—giving your doggo a cake is a special treat for you both. It’s a little something you can do to show just how much you care, and your dog will eat it up (every pun intended).
Today, we’ll cover 5 super simple dog cake recipes that you can make at home. So go ahead. Put on your apron. Pull up your pet’s playlist on Spotify. Head to the kitchen and get cooking. Erm, baking. Ummm, cake making.
Choose one of these cakes, or bake them all and have a pawfect pet party with every pooch in the neighborhood.
Before we begin, we’ve created the following table to help you choose which cake might be the best to start with:

*Based on veterinary recommendations of ¼ to ⅓ pound of meat per 20 pounds of a dog’s body weight per day. Smaller and larger dogs will get more or fewer servings, depending upon their weight and appetite.
Two-Layer No-Bake Chicken and Veggies Dog Cake
This cake is healthy, grain-free, and fairly versatile. You can substitute the broccoli with fresh or frozen green beans, for example, or sweet potatoes for the carrots.
Halve the ingredients for a smaller cake, or double them to feed your hungry horde of hounds. You’ll need to use a larger or smaller springform pan and adjust the amount of yogurt for frosting, depending.
The cake in the photo below uses chopped chicken sausages and a chew bone for the finishing touches, but you can use whatever your pup likes best.

And best of all, you don’t need to use the oven. Here’s the kitchen equipment you will need:
- Food processor or blender
- 2 mixing bowls
- 8-inch springform pan (or size needed for cake desired)
- Oil or cooking spray for the pan
- Dutch oven or stockpot with lid, large enough to hold your springform pan
- Aluminum foil
- Spatula or spoon
- Table knife or meat thermometer
Ingredients:
- 2 to 3 medium carrots, chopped
- 1 to 2 broccoli crowns, chopped into florets
- 1 pound ground/minced chicken, thawed and divided
- 1 cup shredded/grated cheddar cheese, divided
- 1 to 2 cups plain Greek yogurt (you may need more or less, depending on how thick you’d like the frosting and if you frost the sides)
- Treats for decorating
Directions:
- Using your blender or food processor, chop or puree the carrots as finely as possible and pour into a mixing bowl.
- Repeat with the broccoli florets. Pour into a separate mixing bowl.
- Place half of the chicken into each of the two bowls.
- Stir each bowl until thoroughly combined.

- Add ½ cup of cheese to each bowl.
- Stir again to combine completely.
- Oil or spray your springform pan.

- Spread one of your chicken and vegetable mixtures into the bottom of the pan, making sure to spread it evenly.
- Repeat with remaining chicken and veg mixture.
- Cover the pan tightly with foil.
- Place the covered cake pan in your Dutch oven or stockpot.
- Pour in enough hot water to come halfway up the side of the springform pan.
- Place over medium heat. Place the lid on the pot.
- Steam for 30 to 45 minutes, or until firm and cooked through. Insert a table knife in the middle. If it comes out clean, it’s done. Alternately use a meat thermometer. The cake should read at least 165 F.
- Remove from the pot and remove the foil.
- Allow to cool completely.
- Release the cake from the springform pan. Place it on a serving plate or platter.
- Use the yogurt to frost the cake. You may need to thin it a bit with a spoonful or two of water to make it spread easily.
- Decorate with your chosen treats. Party down with Fido and 2 to 3 of his friends.
4 Ingredient Banana-Peanut Butter Dog Cake
What could be easier than a recipe that only takes four ingredients? How about one that requires only one bowl, one spoon, and a pan? And what about one so versatile that it can be used for an 8-inch cake, 12 regular-sized pupcakes, or 24 mini pupcakes?
Doesn’t get much more simple or versatile than that, does it?

Here it is. A grain-free, all-natural, easy-as-pie doggo cake that combines two of her favorite flavors; peanut butter and banana.

Kitchen Equipment:
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon for scooping and mixing
- 8-inch cake pan OR 12 cup muffin tin OR 24 cup mini muffin tin
- Cooking spray or oil for all pans OR paper/foil liners for muffin tins
Ingredients for 8-inch cake:
- 2 bananas
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup natural, preferably organic, peanut butter (NO xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs)
- 1 tsp baking soda
*If making pupcakes, cut the amounts in half.
Ingredients for frosting:
- 2 bananas, mashed
- 4 tbs peanut butter
Instructions for cake and frosting:
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Mash bananas in a bowl with a spoon until smooth.
- Stir in eggs, mixing until well combined.
- Spoon in peanut butter. Stir until smooth and thoroughly mixed.
- Add the baking soda.
- Mix until everything is smooth and evenly colored.
- Pour into prepared pan(s).
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Pupcakes will need to bake for 8 to 12 minutes.
- Cool completely. Remove from pan and transfer to serving plate or platter.
- Make frosting by combining mashed bananas and peanut butter in a small bowl. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Frost the cake top. It’s worth noting that this frosting doesn’t stick to the sides of the cake too well.
- Serve. Watch Fido do a happy dance.
This cake will serve 4 to 8 pups, depending on their size and appetite.
4 Ingredient Apple Dog Cake
What dog doesn’t love a bite of apple? They’re sweet, crunchy, and every pup we’ve ever met seems to enjoy them.
This cake is another four-ingredient wonder and is single-serving as well. So even if your doggo is on the small side, they can still enjoy a treat made just for them without leftovers to worry about storing.
You will need some special equipment for this one. It bakes in either a 4-inch cake pan or a jumbo muffin tin.
Other than that, all you’ll need is:

- Mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Oil or cooking spray for the pan
- Toothpick
It doesn’t get much simpler than that.
And here are the ingredients you’ll need to make it.
Ingredients:
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 tbs natural, preferably organic peanut butter (NO xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs)
- ½ an apple, peeled and grated (be careful NOT to include any core or seeds, as they are toxic to dogs)
- ½ tsp baking powder
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
- Stir until smooth.
- Oil or spray the baking pan or muffin tin.
- Pour the batter into the pan or tin.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and dry.
- Cool for 10 minutes in the pan or tin. Remove from the pan and allow to cool completely.
- Serve, or frost and decorate as suggested below.

You can frost this cake, as in the photo, with the Greek yogurt frosting used in the first recipe. Or, you can spread the top with a layer of your natural peanut butter. Don’t forget the mini-dog treats.
This is truly a single-serving treat unless your pupper is really small. In that case, you might get two servings out of it.
Meaty Meatloaf Party Dog Cake

Maybe you have a horde of hungry hounds. Or perhaps you’re having a pup party and want to invite every dog about town to the ‘do. Or maybe you just want a treat that’ll last your big guy for several days.
In any case, this cake is the one for you and your larger dog or lots of his dog friends.
It contains a whopping 2 ½ pounds of meat, and at the recommended serving we mentioned earlier, that’ll either feed a lot of small to mid-sized dogs or just your average English Bull Mastiff.
You’re going to need a food processor and some time for this one, as this cake takes about a half-hour to prepare. Your furbaby will certainly think it was time well spent.
Kitchen Equipment:
- Food processor
- Medium skillet
- Spoon or spatula
- Large mixing bowl
- Baking sheet pan
- Paring knife
- Saucepan
- Potato masher
- Spatula or knife
Ingredients:
- 1 small (about 6-inch) zucchini, quartered
- 1 celery rib/stick, quartered
- 1 carrot, chopped
- 1 garlic clove
- Small amount of olive oil or butter
- 2 ½ lbs lean ground meat (beef, bison, turkey, chicken, pork, or a combination)
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1 large sweet potato, peeled and chopped
- ¼ cup broth or milk
- Dog treats to decorate
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- Add zucchini, celery, carrot, and garlic to the food processor. Pulse until finely chopped.
- Heat oil or butter over medium heat in a small skillet. Add vegetables.
- Cook and stir for about 5 minutes, until they start to soften.
- In the mixing bowl, combine the ground meat and flour, stirring well.
- Add the vegetable mixture and combine thoroughly.
- Shape mixture into a round or oval loaf on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 1 hour.
- Meanwhile, place the sweet potato chunks in a saucepan with enough water to cover.
- Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat. Simmer until soft.
- Drain the cooking water off, and mash the potatoes with the broth or milk until smooth.
- Once the meatloaf cake has cooled, spread the mashed potato “frosting” over the top.
- Decorate with the dog treats.
- Cut into slices and serve. Observe the tails wagging.
Beef and Carrot Dog Cake

Here’s another meaty choice for your pooch’s special treat. It only calls for six ingredients, and they’re probably already in your kitchen or pantry.
This makes a much smaller meaty cake than the one above, so it’s a pawfect option for your mid-sized pal or for several smaller dogs. It does make enough for two layers with frosting in between (or you could freeze one layer and save it for another special day).
You can bake this cake using two 4-inch cake pans. If you have one, this cake turns out really well baked in a small 4-inch cast-iron skillet, too. You’ll just have to bake it in two batches if you only have one skillet on hand.
Kitchen Equipment:
- Mixing bowl
- Two 4-inch cake pans or cast-iron skillets
- Spatula, spoon, or knife, for frosting
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- ½ cup grated/shredded carrots
- 1 tsp fresh parsley
- 1 cup coconut flour
- 2 eggs
- Plain Greek yogurt or mashed potatoes, for frosting
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- Combine all ingredients, except for the yogurt or mashed potatoes, together in a mixing bowl. It’s best to use your hands. Just get in there and mash everything together really well.

- Pat the mixture into your cake pans or skillets.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Cool for 10 minutes. Remove from the baking pans and transfer to a serving plate or platter.
- Cool for another 5 to 10 minutes.
- Spread the bottom layer with a thick layer of plain Greek yogurt or mashed potatoes.
- Place the top layer on the cake.
- Frost the top with another thick layer of yogurt or mashed potatoes.
- Serve.

If you decide to make this a single-layer cake and save the other layer for another day, simply frost the top and serve. Completely cool the other layer, wrap it in foil, and then place it in a freezer-safe storage bag or container. It will keep in the freezer for three months.
Since this cake only uses one pound of meat, each layer will make two servings. If you make the two-layer cake, you’ll get three to four servings—just enough to share, or make the treat last the weekend.
