Sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. Every one of our senses impacts the way we function, see the world, and feel on a day to day basis.

Arguably, smell is often considered the most indirect yet powerful of all senses, with a close connection to the emotional and memory regions of the brain. As a result, unexpected or unpleasant smells can negatively impact mood and concentration. On the contrary, pleasant smelling environments can have the opposite and even beneficial effects.
Within the 92.5% of Australian households that own a car, the average vehicle travels approximately 13,301km per year or 36.4km per day. As a result, we end up spending a lot of time in our cars, and statistically, 4.3 years of our life.
Not only do we spend extensive periods in our vehicles, but we also spend a relatively large amount of money on acquiring and maintaining them. So, much like the way we acquire perfumes, colognes, and diffusers to make ourselves and our homes smell nice, air fresheners are the perfect addition to continue satisfying our sense of smell.
While you can purchase air fresheners from many different retailers, making your own is a fun, sustainable and economical DIY option. Often all these DIY fresheners require are essential oils and minimal household ingredients and can be customised to your choice and displayed just like a store-bought freshener.
Benefits of Air Fresheners
Besides satisfying your sense of smell, car air fresheners have additional benefits to optimise your experience on the roads.
Neutralise odours
Vehicles are vessels for heavy traffic, and not just the traffic on the road. Passengers, you as the driver, and any external objects that make their way into any element of your vehicle can be the culprits for any unwelcome odours.
A car air freshener can help create a subtle calming ambience in your car and detract from any scents from daily vehicle use.
Refresh

With a subtle air freshener in your vehicle, the atmosphere will be ever so slightly more comfortable, making you feel more fresh and lively without blatant stimulants. It is not only you as the driver that will feel more comfortable, but any passengers are bound to feel much more pleasant surrounded by a desirable scent.
Mood
Not only will you feel more refreshed, but studies have also shown that your mood is likely to be positively impacted by a pleasant scent. In addition, driving can be stressful, especially if you are stuck in traffic or rushed for time, and having a delightfully scented air freshener can help alleviate some of these stressors.
Disinfectant properties
While air fresheners certainly won’t clean your car for you, they are known to eliminate airborne pathogens that float through the interior of your vehicle. In addition, any external road pollution can contaminate the air quality within your car, and an air freshener can be a great way to make the entire drive a more comfortable experience.
