Step 1 – Determine How Much You Need
Before you can install the carpet on your patio, you need to determine exactly how much you need. Take the tape measure and get detailed measurements of the space. If it is just a rectangle or square area, your job is pretty easy. Just get the length and the width. If it is an oddly-shaped space, you should draw a diagram with the dimensions. Take the drawing into a carpet store and get some help in determining how much you need.
Step 2 – Choose Your Carpet

Outdoor carpet comes in a variety of styles and colors. You can even get it with a variety of backings as well. Visit a carpet store and plan on ordering the carpet. They most likely do not have it in stock and it will take a week or two to come in when they order it. You will also need to find out what kind of adhesive you need to order if you want the carpet glued down.
Step 3 – Prepare the Concrete
Before you lay the carpet, you will want to make sure that the concrete is prepared. Make sure that it is clean, dry, and flat. If the floor is uneven, you will want to make sure that you level it out with floor patch as needed.
Step 4 – Spread the Adhesive or Tape
Depending on whether you are using double-faced tape or carpet adhesive, this is the time to spread either one out. If you are using double-faced tape, you should put the tape around the perimeter of the space and a few places in the middle. If you are using carpet adhesive, trowel it onto the concrete. You should probably do half of the space to start out with.
Step 5 – Lay the Carpet

Once you have spread some of the adhesive, or put the double-faced tape into place, you need to lay the carpet down into it. Make sure that it is straight and goes right up to the edge of the space you are covering. Press the carpet firmly down into the tape or glue.
If you are gluing the carpet down, you should roll it with something heavy. You could use a carpet roller if you have one or just anything heavy if you don’t. You could even use a rolling pin with some pressure. Just make sure that the carpet is flat against the concrete. If you have to seam two pieces together, use the straightedge to cut both sides so that it fits together smoothly.
Let the adhesive dry thoroughly and you should be ready to enjoy your new carpet.
