I literally have glass apothecary jars all over my house. In the living room, they are filled with scrabble tiles or balsa wood flowers. I filled them with spools of thread, pink pom poms, or buttons in the craft room. In the bathroom, the glass apothecary jars are filled with Qtips and cotton balls and in the laundry room, they are filled with laundry pods and dryer sheets. Keep reading to learn about these gorgeous jars and how you can use them in your home.
What is an apothecary jar? It is a small, covered jar. Originally they were used by druggists to hold pharmaceuticals. The jars could be found at the pharmacists and often included ingredients that were then mixed together to make remedies. Don’t laugh but I currently decorate with glass apothecary jars in six rooms in our home!
How to Use Apothecary Jars
But I am not the only one. Today you will find apothecary jars in homes that are used for both decor and practical reasons. They are commonly used to hold spices, candies, cosmetics, accessories, holiday decor, and more.
As you can see, I use them a lot to display seasonal decor.

I also just put all of my coffee in Apothecary jars. They didn’t fit in the ceramic jars I was using and they look so much prettier here. The decaf coffee is on the left.
I also have my favorite “superfood healthy creamer” in a tiny apothecary jar.
