Hey y’all! In today’s post we are going to detour from organizing and talk about cleaning instead. Most of you will know that this isn’t a topic I talk about often. I hate cleaning. And I can’t even say “duh who doesn’t?” because I actually know people who love to clean which just fascinates me to no end! Believe me when I say cleaning and organizing are two very different tasks. Both are necessary and important but we all know organizing is way more fun, ha! However last year I discovered Go Clean Co on Instagram and I have to admit it has been entertaining to watch others clean. So after months of watching them work I decided it was time to try some of their methods in my own house specifically on my floors.
It involved a new mop and Tide laundry detergent. What could be more exciting than that right? 🙂

But first let’s back up a bit in case some of you haven’t heard yet of Go Clean Co. They are a Canadian cleaning company from Alberta, Canada that went viral during the pandemic. Seriously they blew up in popularity. Partly because people were bored and looking to clean their homes and partly because Go Clean Co uses methods that many of us haven’t heard of before. Well at least I hadn’t. Since my floors were due for a clean, I decided to do an experiment. I would use my method first and then do it the Go Clean Co way afterwards to compare. It was just the motivation I needed to get one of my least favorite jobs done. And honestly, I didn’t think their way was going to be as great as all the hype made it out to be. I’d show them!
So here’s the process I took. First I vacuumed my tile floors in my kitchen and dining room.

Then I decided I was going to use my Vileda steam mop to mop my floors first which is my usual method (you know, when I actually decide to do it). I took my time and steamed the whole thing. My floors looked pretty good and I was feeling pretty confident that mopping the Go Clean Co way next wasn’t going to produce any more filth. I mean how dirty could these floors really be?
Go Clean Co recommends using the O-Cedar Spin Mop for floor cleaning. If you live in Canada this same product is branded under the Vileda name. It looks exactly the same except for the name. I purchased mine at Walmart here in Canada for $40.
You fill up the bucket with hot hot tap water to the max line and then add 1 teaspoon of powdered Tide laundry detergent. Yep laundry detergent. And it has to be Tide. I mean how do people come up with these things in the first place? There’s a whole science behind it apparently. But that part is over my head :).
Next you want to pump and spin the mop seven to eight times to wring it out so it’s barely wet. Then mop away.

I was still feeling pretty smug at this point. The bucket is black in color so it was hard to tell what color the water was. It didn’t look that bad to me. Ummm let’s just say I was a wee bit wrong on that. Okay a lot wrong. Because this is what the water looked like when I dumped it into the bath tub so we could really get a good look at it. The lighting is not great in this bathroom but you get the idea.
Yep, ew. That is AFTER I steam mopped. I so wasn’t expecting that, wow! Then of course my grout looked terrible to me and so I decided to clean that too. Again with Tide and hot water (they use it clean everything!). I think a small batch is 4 cups hot water to 1/2 teaspoon of Tide but check their site for the exact measurements. I also found a recommendation on the Go Clean Co Facebook fan club page (oh I’m all in now!) for a grout power scrubber. You have to buy the Power Scrubber and the Grout Scrubber Head attachment separately but it is so worth it. It made the job so much easier!!
So I think it’s safe to say that I did NOT in fact show Go Clean Co. However, clearly I’m the winner here because my floors have never been more clean! Stay tuned because now that I see how well this cleaning “experiment” worked for me I’m going to have to come up with a few organizing “experiments” for you all to try, ha! Whatever it takes to get the job done right? :).
Have you all tried the Go Clean Co method of cleaning at your house? What did you think?
PS: I first shared this experiment on my Instagram stories. Make sure to follow me over there.
