Have you used apple cider vinegar for your hair? There are many hair health benefits of apple cider vinegar, which is why you’ll find in as a main ingredients in many natural hair products (skin products, too). But why is it so special? Keep reading for the scoop!

In the realm of natural beauty remedies, there are few ingredients that are as versatile and beneficial as apple cider vinegar (also known as ACV).

Known for its numerous health benefits, ACV has also gained significant popularity for its remarkable effects on hair health. From boosting shine and manageability to treating scalp conditions, ACV has become a go-to solution for those seeking luscious locks without relying on harsh chemical products.

Of course, quality matters – so make sure you check out my buying guide on the best apple cider vinegar.

Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for Hair

  1. Restore pH Balance: One of the primary reasons apple cider vinegar works wonders for hair is its ability to restore the natural pH balance of the scalp and hair follicles. The slightly acidic nature of ACV helps to lower the pH level, which in turn promotes healthier hair growth and prevents common issues like dryness, frizz, and dandruff.
  2. Shining Strands: ACV acts as a natural hair conditioner, leaving your locks looking shiny and lustrous. It helps to remove product buildup and excess oil, restoring the natural sheen of your hair. So if you want shinier hair, try a simple ACV rinse!
  3. Detangling and Smoothing: Tangled hair can be a nightmare to deal with, but apple cider vinegar can come to the rescue. Its acidic properties smooth down the hair cuticles, making it easier to detangle and manage your locks. Incorporating ACV into your hair care routine can significantly reduce knots and leave your hair feeling soft and manageable. I use a spray bottle with 1 part ACV to 3 parts water and spray the mixture on wet hair. Then I use a comb to brush through my hair. This works great for kids too!
  4. Scalp Health and Dandruff Treatment: ACV possesses antimicrobial properties that help combat scalp conditions such as dandruff, itchiness, and flakiness. It helps to rebalance the scalp’s pH level, reducing the growth of yeast and bacteria responsible for dandruff. Regular use of ACV can provide relief from scalp irritation, promote a healthier environment for hair growth, and minimize dandruff-related issues.
  5. Stimulates Hair Growth: Healthy hair growth begins with a healthy scalp. ACV may help to unclog hair follicles, remove dead skin cells, and improve blood circulation, thereby stimulating hair growth. By maintaining a clean and balanced scalp, you create the optimal conditions for hair to thrive and flourish.

Ways To Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Hair:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse: Mix one part apple cider vinegar with two parts water. After shampooing, pour the ACV hair rinse onto your hair, massaging it into the scalp. Let the apple cider vinegar rinse sit for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Repeat this 1-2 times a week for best results.
  • Scalp Treatment: For targeted scalp treatment, dilute ACV with water and apply it directly to the scalp using a spray bottle or cotton ball. Gently massage it in, leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse well.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Mask: Use this hair mask made with natural ingredients depending on your hair type. For dry hair & dry scalp, mix 1 tablespoon of ACV with 1 tbsp of honey and 1 tsp of olive oil or coconut oil together. Apple the hair mask to your hair and scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse well. For oily hair, make the same mask recipe, but without the oil.

Important Tips and Precautions:

  • Always use raw, unfiltered, and organic apple cider vinegar to ensure maximum potency and effectiveness. This is my favorite brand of raw apple cider vinegar.
  • Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to your hair mask or hair rinse to cover up the powerful smell of ACV.
  • Start with a more diluted solution if you have sensitive skin or scalp.
  • Avoid applying undiluted ACV directly to your hair, as it can be too harsh and cause damage.
  • If you experience any adverse reactions or scalp irritation, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.

More Delicious Ways to Use Apple Cider Vinegar:

In addition to its beauty applications, ACV is popular for all kinds of consumables from drinks to shots to salad dressing to gummies (DIY or buy them!) to smoothies.

So many ways to enjoy!
