Cleaning awnings in the spring

Awnings in our country are prone to wear and tear. We have rain and wind from time to time, so they become very dirty. Without cleaning, functions such as insulation, keeping the sun out and air discharge will work less well. The best season for cleaning your awning or canopies is spring. Is it about to rain today or tomorrow? Then it is better to postpone cleaning your awnings for a few days. When you clean the awning, it will become damp. The fabric needs to dry out fully open in the sun for a full day. Please note that when the sun is too bright, it will cause drying out stains. Choose the time of day when the sun is least strong.

Clean your awning or canopies in 5 steps

There are various types of awnings available. There are awnings with arms. Or you can opt for canopies. If you want to clean a caravan awning or canopies, that works in the same way. You can clean your awning with lukewarm water. We found a series of steps you can try out. However, cleaning your awning effectively, you do with HG awning and tent cleaner.

1. Let down or remove

On some awnings it is difficult to remove the fabric. If you can, it is easier to clean the awning fabric. If the fabric cannot be removed, let the awning down in full and use a ladder.

2. Remove loose dirt and large bits

Start by removing large bits and loose dirt. You can often find sand, leaves or twigs on the awning. Remember the underside of the fabric too, to remove any spiderwebs.

3. Use lukewarm water

Now wipe your awning or canopy with a soft brush or sponge. Wipe all the fabric. It means you remove any invisible dirt and you prevent discolouring.

When your awning is clean, it is time to let it dry out. It is best to clean your awning or canopies on a dry day, so this step is a little quicker. We do not recommend rolling up a wet awning.
