Sound Barrier Walls

The Sound Barrier Wall System is an acoustically absorbent, high transmission loss noise barrier wall system. They are ideal for absorbing and blocking unwanted noise from commercial, industrial, residential or traffic noise applications. Silent Protector Noise Walls are a maintenance free alternative in the sound mitigation wall industry.

Noise Barriers (also known as Noise Walls, Acoustic Barriers, Noise Fences or Sound Barrier Walls) have been made of a number of different materials over the years. Noise barriers are solid obstructions built between noise sources, be it highway noise or air conditioning equipment, that are designed to be “line of sight” interruptions between the noise source and the receiver. Noise Barriers are typically made from concrete, steel, vinyl, wood or earth mounds called ‘berms’. Berms are pretty good but in order to get them high enough to be effective sound barriers, they have to be so wide they take up huge amounts of valuable land. Steel barriers are expensive, subject to corrosion and dent badly especially if they are going to have snow thrown up against them by snow plows. Concrete sound barriers are incredibly heavy, very expensive and are subject to needing replacement in as little as 10-20 years. Properly engineered vinyl barrier Like Silent Protector Noise Wall, is the best choice for lower ‘in place costs, great acoustic performance and appearance combined with a life span many times that of all other acoustic barrier noise wall systems.

What is Silent Protector Noise Barrier?

Silent Protector Noise Barriers are extremely attractive perforated vinyl panels or rails that are filled with a highly acoustically absorbent mineral fiber that will not absorb water. These rails are designed to be self draining for the worst weather or wind conditions. The Silent Protector Acoustic Barrier rails have a surface density weight of 5.2 lbs per sq. ft. providing an STC (Sound Transmission Class) of up to 36 and they meet all Ministry guide lines for exterior sound barriers. Silent Protector has an NRC of 1.0 so that all the noise is absorbed and not reflected. These noise barrier rails are full ‘tongue and groove’ design making them exceptionally strong, dimensionally stable and totally acoustically sealed. Silent Protector Noise Barrier is capable of spans up to 10’ and heights up to 30’. They are installed much like any fence system so even local contractors can install them with no special training. Because of Silent Protectors light weight it is particularly suited to roof top noise control applications.

Why is Silent Protector Vinyl Noise Barrier a better choice?

Acoustic performance – Silent Protector Acoustic Barriers are great at both stopping the noise from penetrating the wall and absorbing it, not reflecting it back to create other problems.

Less Cost – Wide spans (up to 10’) = Less Posts = Less in place cost. As opposed to concrete barrier where the crane must be on site for the entire installation you only need the crane for the post placement with Silent Protector. Installation is much faster resulting in cost savings.

Life Span – Silent Protectors life span will be 2-3 times that of concrete or steel barrier and 5 times that of wood. Will not rust, rot or stain.

Better Looking Finished Product – While looks are somewhat subjective, most people agree that Silent Protector looks fantastic when complete.

Graffiti Resistant – Unfortunately in today’s world graffiti is ever more present causing untold damage to buildings fences and property. Due to Silent Protectors ‘non-porous’ surface ordinary, commonly available solvents will remove nearly all graffiti with out a trace. This is the big problem with concrete noise fence. Once they are damaged with spray paint they are virtually impossible to clean.

Easy to Install – No Field Welding and reduced crane usage.

Backed by independent tests conducted in a NVLAP accredited laboratory per ASTM E90 (transmission loss) and ASTM C423 (sound absorption).

Vinyl Sound Barrier Walls have “time tested” performance.

How can Vinyl Noise Barrier be “Green”?

Silent Protector Noise Barrier rails are manufactured in a “co-extrusion process”. The core, which comprises the majority of the weight and volume of the product, is 100% re-cycled PVC from post consumer and post industrial applications. It is only the outer ‘colour layer’ that is new material. This outer layer is extremely tough, UV resistant and colour stabilized. You can take a knife or a hammer to the finish and not be able to expose the core material. If the Silent Protector is taken down at a later date it is instantly recyclable back into pellet for other uses. Also because it is so much lighter there is far less environmental impact from transporting the product. You can get more than 3 times the amount of wall surface on a single truck. There is a need for sustainable noise wall products that comply with “Green Building” practices.
