Essential Oils As Natural Remedies & Beauty Tools

Essential oils (EOs) are highly concentrated plant extracts containing active chemicals that support the body’s natural healing abilities.

Plant extracts like EOs have been used as beauty tools for hundreds of years by various cultures worldwide because they are hydrating, nourishing, and moisturizing to the skin.

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses EOs to enhance physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Research shows that EOs can be useful for specific skin conditions like:

  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Shingles
  • Warts
  • Healing bug bites
  • Sunburns and skin burns

EOs have powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin while slowing down the aging process.

Upgrade your beauty game and add EOs to your daily skincare routine for a natural and non-toxic boost.

The Best Essential Oils For Different Skin Types

EOs for Acne Breakouts

People with acne-prone, oily skin have overactive sebaceous glands that produce excessive oil production (aka sebum).

Sebum naturally moisturizes your hair and skin, but when skin cells don’t turn over fast enough, it can get trapped in the hair follicles and cause acne breakouts.

Peppermint, clary sage, helichrysum, and tea tree oil effectively prevent and manage acne thanks to the antibacterial, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties.

Grapefruit oil is a natural astringent that can help reduce excess oil.

Anti-aging EOs

If you want to enhance your youthful glow and reduce fine lines, then frankincense, ylang ylang, rose, sandalwood, and rosemary oil can help.

Thanks to their high antioxidant profile, they help fight free radicals, which are known to speed up the skin’s aging process.

Lavender oil, chamomile, and geranium oil are usually gentle enough for sensitive skin types.

Other oils that may be useful for skin health are:

Myrrh

Cedarwood

Jasmine

Lemongrass

Neroli

How To Use Essential Oils For Nourished Skin

Always dilute your EOs in a carrier oil before applying them directly to your skin.

Diluting essential oils in a carrier oil increases their effectiveness.

They help essential oils be better absorbed into the skin.

A carrier oil (aka base oil) is a vegetable oil typically extracted from the kernels, nuts, or seeds of a plant.

Different carrier oils have various health benefits and therapeutic properties.

It’s essential to make sure you’re only using high-quality body oils.

Choose certified organic and 100% pure oils that aren’t extracted with high heat or harsh chemicals.

Stick to 2-3 drops of EO per 1 teaspoon of carrier oil.

Popular carrier oil options to moisturize the skin are:

  • Coconut oil
  • Argan oil
  • Vitamin E oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Almond oil
  • Carrot seed oil
  • Olive oil
  • Moisturize

Safety Concerns

EOs are highly concentrated and potent.

A little goes a long way.

Always dilute them before applying directly to your skin.

Only apply 1 drop of a specific oil to your face at a time.

Be mindful of phototoxic oils like lemon, grapefruit, and orange.

Use them with care and caution.

You may experience an allergic reaction or irritation if you’re exposed to the sun.

If you experience an adverse reaction, discontinue use immediately.

To be on the safe side, perform a patch test on your arm before applying the oils to your face.

If you do not react after 24 hours, then proceed.
