Factors To Consider When Buying Garden Twine

Below, we have mentioned some of the things that you need to keep in mind while buying garden twine.

Purpose

Garden twine can be used for a variety of purposes. Thus, the type of twine required depends on your purpose. One common thing in all kinds of garden twine is that everyone looks for its durability and capability to hold the required material accurately for a longer period of time.

Garden twine should not only be durable and visually appealing enough, but it should also be gentle so that it does not harm other plants in the garden. You should identify the purpose that you need garden twine for and then choose the one with a suitable color, length, strength, material, price, and usage capability. The one that fits all these requirements and isn’t heavy on your pocket is definitely the one you should go for.

Materials

The finest garden twines are usually made up of two different types of materials. One is called natural and the other is called synthetic.

Natural heavy-duty twine is made up of cotton, flax, jute, silk, etc. Whereas, synthetic twines are made up of polypropylene, nylon, acrylic, etc. Garden twines can be coated for additional durability, or to prevent water damage and abrasion.

If you want to use garden twine for hanging purposes, then go for a strong synthetic garden twine that wouldn’t break. Whereas, if you want to use garden twine for tying the plants to stakes or to build a trellis, then you can use a natural or synthetic twine that would serve its purpose in the best way.

Price

The best price for twine is the one that doesn’t exceed your budget and at the same time fulfills your requirement. Purchasing a poor quality garden twine could be more expensive for you as compared to increasing your budget a little for once and getting a good quality garden twine that will stay with you for a longer time without breaking or becoming useless.

Therefore, think smartly before making a decision. Selecting for long-term use is more beneficial than selecting for a short term.

Color

The color of twines matters a lot too. Colors that match the surroundings look appealing to the viewers and give your garden an amazing look. You can also choose bright-colored garden twines that will contrast with your green plants in the garden.

Length

Selecting an accurate length of garden twine is very important because you don’t want your garden twine to be short while you are finally tying your plant to a stake, using it for tressels, or hanging your pot.

Therefore, it is better to go for a longer length so you can keep the extra for later use. Running short of twine could be annoying. This is especially so when you’re purchasing online, and you’re waiting for your order to come so you can use it and then you get to see that it is shorter than what you needed.

What Are the Uses of Garden Twine?

Below, we have mentioned some of the uses of garden twine that can help you decide if you need it:

Supporting plants

Garden twines are majorly used by gardeners to support their plants as tall plants such as tomatoes or peppers can fall off if they grow without any support. Thus, they are either supported by a stake or by a trellis. Garden jute twine plays a major role in helping the stake or trellis in supporting the plant.

When a stake is driven into the ground next to a plant that needs support, garden twine is then used to tie the plant with the stake. Moreover, twines are used to make rope trellis as well which then provide support to the plant.

You would need to tie tomatoes and other plants again in every season. Therefore, for this purpose, you can use a less durable and cheap garden twine because you will have to change it eventually.

Making plants’ straight rows

If you are one of those who like their plant organized and in rows, then garden twine could help you with it.

You can do this by hammering stakes in the corner of the section and tying twine between the two stakes to draw a straight line. This will help you to keep your plants in straight rows and will make sure that your plants don’t cross the line that you’ve drawn from garden twine.

You can also do this for your plants before they even begin to grow, meaning when you seed them. This will help you in identifying where your plants are planted so you can prevent stepping on them accidentally. It will also warn others to not step on it.

You can even use twine made of natural jute to set up a grid for a square foot garden. For tips on setting grid, check video below.

Hanging purpose

You can also use garden twine for hanging purposes. It can be used to hang onions, garlic, or different types of herbs. Moreover, you can use garden twine to hang planters or hang a plant pot for decoration purposes. Not only will it look good visually but it will also increase the space for keeping pots in your garden.

One innovative way of using garden twine for hanging purposes is to grow a tomato in a pot and then turn it upside down and hang it. Wouldn’t it be cool? Instead of supporting tomato plants with a stake, you can try this out using garden twine and surprise your fellow gardeners with unique ideas.

Furthermore, the finest garden twine can also be used to hang your gardening tools as well so that it stays organized.

Train branches on fruit trees

This method which is commonly known as espalier training can be done by using garden twine. The branches of fruit trees are encouraged to grow in a certain way to create a special pattern. For controlling the growth of the branches, branches are supported by a trellis system made up of garden twine.

Tying straw bales

Straw bales can also be tied using garden twines. Twine is a great help when it comes to tying a bundle of crops together.
