How To Clean Kitchen Cupboard Doors

Cleaning the kitchen regularly is one of life’s most tedious tasks, however, it is a very important one. Food is prepared and cooked in the kitchen and the last thing you want is germs and bacteria spreading from your uncleaned surfaces and cupboards. So, we have put together our top kitchen cupboard door cleaning tips to help ease one of your cleaning chores. Different cleaning methods are needed depending on the type of kitchen cupboards you have.

Wooden Kitchen Cupboard Doors

Usually, a layer of varnish will be applied to wooden doors, the reason for this is to protect your wood from moisture which may cause discoloration on the cupboards or even cracks. You need to be careful not to use any harsh products on the wood as this could damage it. Instead, opt for warm soapy water. Fill a bowl with warm water and a drop of washing liquid and use a soft cloth to wipe over the doors. Do not use a harsh or wired brush as this may scratch the wood. Another option instead of soap would be to use a specifically designed solution just for wooden surfaces. After using either the soap or solution, dry the wooden doors using a dry towel to avoid any marks or water stains.

Gloss Kitchen Cupboard Doors

Many modern kitchens now feature high-gloss kitchen cupboards. However, keeping them clean can be quite a challenge as they are much more likely to gather finger marks and spots of grease and grime. The good news is, they are the easiest surface to clean. You can use many things to clean gloss doors, but your safest bet will be detergent and warm water. With gloss doors, it’s also important to use a soft cloth when cleaning to avoid scratches. Be careful not to use soapy water as you may be left with lots of streaks that aren’t very pleasing to the eye. After cleaning, use a microfibre cloth to polish the doors dry and watch them sparkle again. Although these kinds of doors can look dirty quickly, they are incredibly easy to clean and maintain.

Glass Panel Kitchen Cupboard Doors

The number one rule for glass panels is to not use soap or detergent, these are very likely to smear and stain your lovely glass. Instead, you need to use a glass cleaner, but if you prefer a natural product, white vinegar with water is a great option. Use a soft cloth to wipe over the glass, make sure you are very careful when cleaning the glass doors, as you don’t want to damage them.

Painted Kitchen Cupboards

It’s important to use a non-abrasive solution when cleaning painted doors as they can become easily damaged or marked. Using a detergent with warm water is the safest option, give your painted doors a good clean using a soft cloth and wipe off the excess water with a towel.

Removing Water Stains

Throughout you may have noticed the emphasis we have put on drying your cupboards after cleaning them with your solution and cloth. If you do not dry your kitchen cupboards, you may be left with water stains. Water stains ruin the look of any type of cupboard with their unsightly smears and streaks. However, if you are left with a water stain that just won’t budge, don’t worry we have a solution.

To remove these stains all you will need is a bowl of warm water, a very small dash of washing up liquid – it’s important to only use a small amount of this as too much could create even more staining. Next, you will need to add a cup of white cider vinegar to your solution. Mix it all together and soak a sponge in the mixture. Using the sponge, give the cabinets a good wipe down, rinsing the sponge regularly. Finally, using a clean, dry towel wipe the excess off. You should be left with sparkling clean cupboard doors, free from water stains.
