How to Reset Blink Cameras and Sync Module

Resetting devices can solve almost any tech issue or glitch. It’s usually a quick and simple fix to get things up and running again. However, resetting Blink Cameras is more work than most other devices.

Resetting Your Blink Camera

The Blink Indoor, Outdoor, XT, and XT2 cameras require a Sync Module. The Sync Module connects all your cameras to the internet.

If you’re having any issues with your Blink Cameras, it’s recommended to first power cycle your Blink system and router. This is so you don’t have to go back and reconnect all your devices.

Power Cycling Blink Cameras and Sync Modules

If your camera or Sync Module is offline, we recommend trying to power cycle before resorting to a reset.

Power cycling doesn’t require you to reconfigure your system, and it’s an easy first step to try.

If your Blink camera system is offline, try power cycling your Internet modem. Here are the steps to do this:

  1. Unplug your Internet modem and Wi-Fi router.
  2. Wait one minute.
  3. Plug the modem back in.
  4. Once the modem is back online, plug the router in.

If you have an app, you can also restart your network. I have the Google Nest WiFi, and at times, there is some congestion that causes some issues with the devices connected.

You can tell if the internet power cycle worked by checking the lights on the Sync Module. There should be one solid green and one solid blue light.

If this doesn’t fix the problem, power cycle the module:

  1. Unplug the Sync Module power cable.
  2. Wait at least ten seconds.
  3. Plug it back in.
  4. Wait at least one minute for the system to power back up. Look for the solid green and blue lights.

Resetting the Sync Module

Sometimes power cycling does not solve your problem. In that case, you will want to reset your Blink system by resetting the Sync Module.

To reset the Sync Module:

  1. Press and hold the reset button on the device until the light turns red for 15-30 seconds. If you have the Sync Module, it is on the side. If you have the Sync Module 2, it is on the back.
  2. Wait for one solid green light and one flashing blue light. Then the reset is complete.

Resetting the Sync Module this way will put it in “set-up mode.” All connected cameras will go offline.

To use your cameras again, you must delete your Sync Module in the Blink app and reinstall it.

To delete a Sync Module:

  1. In the Blink app, scroll down to the Sync Module.
  2. Select “Delete Sync Module.
  3. Scan the QR code on the back of the module or enter the module’s serial number.
  4. Tap “Delete.”

To reinstall your Sync Module:

  1. Return to the home screen and click the “+ sign.”
  2. Select “Sync Module.”
  3. Scan the QR code or enter the module’s serial number again.
  4. Select your Blink system or create a new one.
  5. Tap “Discover Device.” Your Sync Module also needs to have a flashing blue and green pattern.
  6. Join the Sync Module to its temporary WiFi network.
  7. Enter your WiFI details and click on “Join.”
  8. Blink will now start the connection process.
  9. Select “Done.”

If resetting the Sync Module doesn’t solve your camera issue, contact our TechSupportal or Blink customer service for additional support.

Resetting Blink Mini Cameras

The Blink Mini does not have to be connected to a Sync Module to operate. If you have a Blink Mini that operates independently, you must reset the camera.

  1. Keep the Blink Mini plugged in.
  2. Use a paperclip or a small screwdriver to press and hold the reset button for five seconds.
  3. A blue light will start blinking, and you can now set up the Blink Mini Camera again.

A Blink Mini can also get a power cycle or be restarted with the entire system from the Sync Module.

Where are the Reset Buttons on Blink Devices?

All Blink Cameras, Blink Doorbells, and Sync Modules have an easy way to reset them with a reset button. Here are where they are located:

Blink Floodlight Camera: Under the camera

Blink Video Doorbell: On top of the camera

Blink Outdoor Camera: In the battery compartment

Blink Indoor Camera: In the battery compartment

Blink XT and XT2: Inside on the top right of the product sticker

Sync Module 2: Inside on the top right of the product sticker

Sync Module (Original): On the side next to the USB port

When You Should Reset a Blink Camera

One reason to reset a Blink Camera and Sync Module is if you plan on selling or giving away your system. You don’t have to reset the cameras, however, some people might feel more secure that way.

If you’ve received a Blink Camera that is still attached to someone’s account, you will have to contact the original owner to get them to remove the device from their account.

Resetting a Blink Camera as a Troubleshooting Step

Resetting your whole Blink Camera system can seem like a daunting task, especially when you have ten cameras set up in your system.

It isn’t too difficult to get everything up and running again, but if you don’t have to reset it in the first place, why should you?

You should reset a Blink Camera and Sync Module system if any basic troubleshooting steps don’t work, such as power cycling and restarting the individual camera.

Some issues that resetting a Blink Camera and Sync Module can solve are:

  • Blink Camera’s Live View fails
  • The two-way audio isn’t working
  • Continuously won’t go online or is always disconnecting, despite being closer to the Sync Module
  • If the Blink Camera is busy
  • The Blink System is unavailable
  • Changing WiFi networks

FAQ: Resetting a Blink Camera

Can you reboot a Blink Camera remotely?

You cannot reboot or reset Blink Devices remotely. If your Blink Cameras need to be reset but you aren’t home, you will have to wait until you get home.

Can you reset only one Blink Camera?

You can reset each individual Blink Camera if you have a whole system with the reset button on the camera. This is a quick refresh and won’t remove any of the camera’s settings.

However, when resetting Blink Cameras, if they are connected to a Sync Module, it is recommended to perform the factory reset.
