We’ll also go over Star Fragment use in Zelda: Breath of the Wild because a lot of people aren’t sure exactly what a Star Fragment is used for. In most cases, there are certain stipulations that must be met before you can find a Star Fragment. While it’s possible to get one in a chest or even find one after defeating a Lynel, those aren’t sure-fire ways to get a Star Fragment. The best way to find a Star Fragment is after a shooting star falls from the sky. Don’t worry, we’re about to cover how to virtually guarantee to find a shooting star.

First and foremost, shooting stars will only fall from the sky between 9:30 PM and 2:00 AM, and only when it’s a full moon. You can speak with Hino at the Dueling Peaks Stable and ask him what tonight’s moon will be. The moon in Breath of the Wild follows an eight-day cycle. You can rest at the fire at the Dueling Peaks Stable and wait until Hino tells you it’s going to be a full moon. We recommend resting until noon to make sure Hino isn’t sleeping.

Once it’s a full moon, you can head to any high point in Hyrule. We recommend the Dueling Peaks since you’ll already be close by, but any high mountain top will work. Make sure you have the ability to start a fire or rest until night before heading up to the top of the mountain.

When you’re in position, keep your gaze on the horizon and don’t move. You can move, but it’s easier if you don’t. Almost every full moon between 9:30 PM and 2:00 AM you will see a shooting star fall from the sky in your current view. Once it hits the ground a beacon will light up so it’s easier to find.
The Star Fragment won’t stay in place for long. You need to find it before morning or it will be lost and you’ll have to start over again. It’s best to travel to a tower or shrine near the location of the beacon so you can get there faster. You can also use food (almost any recipe with Swift Carrots), or the Stealth or Dark Link armor sets to increase movement speed so you can reach the Star Fragment as quickly as possible.
Star Fragments can be used to enhance various cooking recipes, but they’re mainly used to enhance armor using one of the Great Fairies. Most of the circlets you receive from Isha’s shop in Gerudo Town, as well as the Ancient armor set and the aiimbo outfits will all need Star Fragments to fully enhance them. Depending on how many of those armor pieces you have and how many enhancements you perform, you may need quite a few Star Fragments.
