  • Can you unclog a kitchen sink using any of Drano products? The short answer is yes!
  • It’s hard to avoid food waste in the kitchen sink altogether. Whatever we do, it will get there after some time of usage.
  • Luckily, Drano creates heat inside the pipes and helps drains running freely. Read more about this product in the article below.

What is Drano?

Drano is an American brand of drain cleaner for households manufactured by S. C. Johnson & Son.

Drano products are made from sodium hypochlorite (bleach), sodium hydroxide (lye), sodium chloride, sodium nitrate, and aluminum;

When you have a clogged sink, tub, shower, or other drains, the manufacturer advises you to take charge and get it back to flowing fast with Drano products.

The Drano line consists of:

  • Clog Remover Drano Max Gel,
  • Drano Kitchen Granules Clog Remover,
  • Drano Dual Force Foamer Clog Remover,
  • Drano Liquid Drain Cleaner,
  • Drano Max Build-Up Remover,
  • Drano Advanced Septic Treatment,
  • Drano Hair Buster Gel,
  • Drano Kitchen Gel, and
  • Plumber’s Snake Plus Tool and Gel System Drano;

Solutions for clogged drains

Drano chemicals can tackle standing water efficiently.

They are powerful enough to dissolve nasty clogs. But, at the same time, Drano products aren’t going to harm your plastic or metal pipes.

Important: Make sure that you follow the label directions and instructions carefully.

Now the question arises: Which Drano products to use if problems with clogs happen in the kitchen?

Drano Max Gel Clog Remover

Which Drano is best for the kitchen sink?

Drano Max Gel Clog Remover is the best solution for dealing with an average kitchen sink clog.

This Drano is effective and affordable. It comes in 80-ounce bottles. It’s safe to use on PVC, garbage disposals, metal pipes, and septic systems.

Drano Max Gel Clog can remove standing water in the kitchen sink. Its formula is thick enough to pour through water straight easily straight to the clog, dissolving all the debris fast.

This Drano is a gel, liquid clog remover designed to destroy tough, greasy kitchen clogs.

Besides the kitchen sink, you can also use Drano Clog Removers to unclog:

  • a bathroom sink,
  • shower, or
  • clogged bathtub;

Important: Don’t use this Drano in toilets. These products are not safe in the toilet, as their harsh ingredients can be abrasive and harmful to your commode and plumbing pipes.

Apparently, the most potent solution to unclog a toilet is not a chemical product but a plunger. It creates a vacuum to force clogs out of drains.

Tip: Make sure the toilet bowl contains enough water to submerge the head of the plunger.

How to use a clog remover Drano?

For clogged or slow-running drains, apply it and let it work for 15 minutes. Then, run hot water. For tough problems, wait 30 minutes before flushing.

Drano Kitchen Granules Clog Remover

If you’re dealing with remaining stagnant water in your kitchen sink, your drains may be blocked with food waste such as grease, cooking oil, or bacon grease.

The powerful formula of Drano Kitchen Granules heats water to melt grease in the kitchen drain quickly—it’s the only product specifically designed for this goal. It’s also safe on a pipe.

This product works well on grease and food remains. However, it won’t work so great in bathroom sinks, so forget combatting with, for example, hair clogs.

Important: For kitchen sinks with garbage disposals, consider using Drano Dual Force Foamer Clog Remover for drain odor and Drano Max Gel to unclog a kitchen sink. Avoid using Drano Kitchen Granules.

Dislodge greasy clogs in six simple steps:

  1. Clear

Remove the stagnant water from the kitchen sink outside with a sponge. Remove drain strainer.

  1. Pour Drano Kitchen Granules

Pour three heaping tablespoons of the product into the kitchen drain.

  1. Add water

Just after filling your sink with Drano, immediately pour 2 cups of hot (but not boiling) water in the drain.

  1. Wait

Allow the product to work on the food waste and other debris for 15 minutes.

  1. Rinse

After 15 minutes of waiting, run water (cold water) to rinse your sink thoroughly.

  1. Repeat if necessary

If the drain is still clogged, repeat the steps above. If the problem persists after the second application, reach out to a plumber.

Boiling water

Boiling water is a simple solution that works.

If you have a metal pipe, loosen the clog with very hot water.

Pouring a pot of boiling water directly down the drain into the trap may dissolve the clog, especially if it consists of grease or soap scum.
