Tanning Lotion Warehouse Blog

There’s many tanning lotion options out there, especially if you shop online. As you shop, you’ll notice there’s quite a difference in everything from what they promise to how much they cost. Is there truly that big of a difference between regular tanning lotion and lotion made for a tanning bed? Can you use any tanning lotion in a tanning bed? We’re here to answer these questions for you, and more.

Do You Really Need Tanning Lotion?

Before we go any further, let’s first discuss the importance of high-quality tanning lotion. Is it possible to go into the tanning bed without lotion? Yes. Is it a good idea? No! You can technically get a tan in a tanning bed without lotion, just as you can get a tan in the sun without tanning lotion. That being said, dry skin reflects UV light. One of the benefits of using tanning lotion in an indoor tanning bed is that it helps the skin stay hydrated. According to a study on tanning lotions conducted by the American Tanning Institute, “Indoor tanning products showed a statistically significant enhancement from the baseline for both tan-ability and moisturization.”

This means you will not be making the most out of your tanning session if you don’t have lotion on. It will take longer to get the deep tan you’re looking for, and you’ll be doing additional and unneeded damage to your skin in the process.

Can You use any Tanning Lotion in a Tanning Bed?

The tanning bed is fantastic for achieving and keeping a beautiful brown color on your skin. You can’t always make it to the beach. Perhaps it isn’t sunny, the temperature is too low, you don’t have time, or you don’t live somewhere that makes a beach trip or pool day possible. The tanning bed is a fantastic alternative to basing your life around laying out on a lounge chair every day.

That being said, tanning in the sun and tanning in a tanning bed are not the same thing. Tanning beds use UV lights, which is not the same as the light you get from the sun itself. For this reason, it is important to remember that you cannot, and should not, use regular lotions when going into a tanning bed. Any type of regular sun lotions made for outdoor tanning will not offer up the same benefits and protection as tanning bed lotions will. As well, the salon owner will be upset because the ingredients in regular tanners can damage their beds!
