Did you know that chemicals found in antifreeze and oven cleaner have been found in sex lube products?
Just because a sex lube product is on the market, does NOT mean it’s safe.
Here’s why sex lube on the market can be unsafe:
Vaginal skin is highly absorbent. Nutrients (and unfortunately chemicals) can be absorbed into the body at up to 10x the amount than oral doses.
What does this mean?
What you put into your vagina gets absorbed into the body and can not only negatively affect your vaginal health, but your overall health in general.
This guide shares how to make homemade coconut oil lube that will spark intimacy in the bedroom while also focusing on your health.
There are tons of rumors out there on the internet:
And many people seem to believe that coconut oil, when used as lube, can increase the risk for yeast infections.
It’s important to know that those are simply rumors:
Dr. Kathleen Green shares that coconut oil is 100% safe and effective to use as sex lubricant and will not cause yeast infections or other bacterial infections.

There are 3 reasons why coconut oil is great for lube:
Coconut oil’s antifungal properties have actually been shown to be effective in treating yeast infections, not causing them.
They actually say that “Coconut oil should be used in the treatment of fungal infections in view of emerging drug-resistant Candida species.”
The antibacterial properties of coconut oil are great for resisting micro-organisms that are prone to cause infections.
They found that “Another test-tube study demonstrated the anti-fungal effects of capric acid, showing that it was able to inhibit the growth of certain types of fungi.”
People that are inflamed are at greater risk for developing infections. Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory components that are another benefit to using it as lube.
Dr. Axe found that “the high levels of antioxidants present in virgin coconut oil (VCO) reduced inflammation and improved arthritis symptoms more effectively than leading medications.”
Making your own coconut oil at home isn’t hard.
It takes time, but the benefits of making your lube at home, sourcing your own ingredients, and knowing EXACTLY what’s in it will give you peace of mind and ultimately greater health.
The 2-step process below focuses on the quality of ingredients that goes into your homemade coconut oil sex lube.
Remember, your vagina is highly absorbent and will take in all the chemicals that are in the coconut oil.
If you buy low-quality, non-organic coconut oil (where they use chemicals, bleach, solvents, and hexanes to refine it), then you’re risking those chemicals to enter your bloodstream and immune system.
Unfortunately, you’re not completely safe with USDA organically labeled coconut oil, either.
If it says “made with organic materials,” then only 70% of the product needs to be certified organic.
So you really need to be careful:

Even if you buy “organic” coconut oil for lube, you can still end up with unwanted chemicals that are harmful to your vagina and overall health.
We recommend coconut oil that’s 100% organic, unrefined, and unprocessed.
Pure, 100% organic coconut oil is safe to use as lube.
But, there’s something missing:
Coconut oil is great, but it doesn’t have the full spectrum of ingredients that your vagina needs for optimal health.
Here are 2 ingredients you should think about adding to your DIY lube:
Coconut oil is highly absorbent so it will penetrate the lipid layers of the skin quite easily, but it doesn’t necessarily create a barrier.
Sunflower seed oil, on the other hand, is a barrier oil. It protects the skin from irritation.
This oil gets absorbed by the skin and is great for reducing pain and inflammation.
There are many other natural oils that nourish the vaginal skin (that also make great-feeling, long-lasting lube).
Chiavaye is an all-natural, vegan, and 100% chemical free lube.
It uses a 100% organic coconut oil base and only has 5 other ingredients: evening primrose oil, sunflower seed oil, almond oil (locks in moisture), Vitamin E (promotes blood circulation), grapeseed oil (anti-inflammatory).
