The Blink Sync Module is the boss of all your Blink cameras, doorbell, and home security system. It’s a little device that connects all your cameras to one IP address, so you don’t have to deal with many different ones. Plus, you can even hook up a USB flash drive for local storage of your video files. Remember that the storage capacity depends on the flash drive you use.
And let me tell you, the latest and greatest version is the Blink Add-on Sync Module 2. It was just released on January 28th, 2021. You’ll find the Blink Sync 2 module, a wall DC power supply, a USB-A to Micro-USB cable, and an instructions booklet when you open the box.
In order to be able to store your video clips to the cloud, you’ll need a subscription to Blink’s cloud storage plan, which is only $10 a month. But trust me, it’s totally worth it!
If you do not have a subscription, it will still work. You will just need to have a USB stick inserted into the module in order to store the video.
Accessing your cloud storage is done through the Blink app. Just tap the cloud icon on the home screen.
Last year they dropped version two of the device, and it’s a total upgrade, like woah! They made a few tweaks to make it even better. Both modules can handle up to 10 cameras, but there are a couple key differences between the two. So, what’s the deal with Sync Module 1 and 2? What sets them apart?
Yes. A Sync Module is not required. Technically, you do not need a sync module for your outdoor camera to work. However, it does provide a few benefits. First is simplicity: instead of having an IP address for every camera on your network and configuring each IP individually, you just have one address to deal with, and that’s it.
The second benefit is that the sync module will provide faster data streaming from the cameras to your phone/tablet/computer than the stable wifi connection. This works for Blink security cameras, Blink mini, XT2 outdoor cameras, video doorbell cameras, etc.
Setting up the module is a quick and easy process. However, there are a few things to keep in mind before you start:

Been busy collecting cameras for your Sync Module, and you’ve hit double digits? Congrats! But don’t worry, I got you covered. It’s time to expand your setup and add a second Sync Module. It’s just like adding a new bestie to your squad. You gotta scan that QR code and give it a cute name. And don’t worry. It’s as easy as setting up your Sync Module the first time. So give your cameras some room to breathe, and let’s get that second Sync Module added to the mix!
Moving your Blink camera from one Sync Module to another is very easy. Simply delete it from the module and add it to the new one.
The Blink Sync Module range is 100 feet. If you need more range, you can use a wifi extender, but I have never had the need to use one because 100 feet is plenty for me.
If you want to reduce the number of cameras you are using and no longer need a specific module, you can quickly delete it from your system.
The best place to keep your Blink Sync Module is in a central location. Pick a place that has a good wifi signal. I prefer to keep mine right beside my internet router.
Figuring out how many Sync Modules you need is very simple. You need one Blink Module for each group of 10 cameras that you install. so, if you plan on setting up 6 cameras around your home, you need one module. If you increase that number to 11-20 cameras, you will need two.
At some point, you may want to reset your sync modules due to them not working correctly or not showing up in the app. You can reset this by simply unplugging it from the power and then plugging it back in again. That should reset it.
If this does not resolve any issues, you can try using the reset button. The hard factory reset button can be found next to the flash drive’s USB port. You will need a paper clip to press the button. Hold it down for 5 seconds, and you should see a red flashing light, then blue flashing lights, and then a solid green light.
If you are experiencing a solid red light on your Blink module, it means that there is no internet connection. Check your router to make sure it is connected to the internet.
If your module is showing a flashing green light, it means that you are not correctly connected to the internet. We have a complete article on what to do when it is blinking green.

Setting up the cameras themselves was a piece of cake and everything seemed to work great for a few days. But, just out of the blue on day, I ran into a bit of trouble.
The camera went offline due to an IP conflict with another device on my wifi network.
I turned everything off and on again. I restarted my router, unplugged all my devices, and even did a little rain dance for good measure.
And you know what? It worked! After resetting everything, I was able to set up the Sync Module without a hitch. It was like magic.

From then on, the Blink system worked like a charm.
Suppose your camera or other devices aren’t connecting. In that case, the first thing you should try is giving ’em an excellent old-fashioned reset. Just unplug ’em and plug ’em back in. It’s like giving them a little wake-up call. Most of the time that’ll fix the problem.
If that doesn’t trick, try moving your devices closer together like a little family reunion. See if that helps. If that still ain’t working, try using a different wifi network. Your current one may be too picky.
If none of these options work, you might want to give support a call. They’re like IT wizards and will help you out in no time. But before you do, ensure you’ve tried all these steps, so you don’t look like a total tech novice.
If the module drops off the internet periodically, I would first make sure that you are close enough to the router.
If this does work, the next step is to ensure that the wifi connection is actually dropping and not something else causing the disconnect issue. To do this, I recommend that you first disconnect from wifi on the module itself and reconnect to it.

If your Sync Module is already registered to a different account, you will need to contact support to help resolve this issue. To get them, open the app and go to settings > help > contact us > submit a ticket. They will send you a confirmation email so that you can verify your account before helping you out further.
If you know what account it is assigned to and know someone that has access to it, you may be able to resolve the issue yourself by asking them to remove it from their account.

If the reset button is not working, the only other option is to unplug it and then plug it back in.
Having trouble getting a solid connection between your devices? Don’t sweat it. It’s probably just because they’re a little too far apart. Try moving your camera closer to the router and see if that helps. If not, give a different wifi a shot. It might be the ticket.
Suppose your videos or data are acting all corrupt. In that case, it’s probably because your sync module is having trouble connecting with the camera or the internet.
First things first, make sure you got a decent internet connection. You can check your router settings and see if there’s a better signal closer to you. If you’re too far from the router, try moving closer and see if that fixes the issue.
But if it ain’t working, you might wanna look into getting a new internet connection. And if you’re using a flash drive, try switching it up and see if that helps.
