I love essential oils and my two dogs Yoda and Casper and I recently went about researching to find out the best dog shampoo for fleas using essential oils.
I tried a few options and today I am sharing our favorite. This fantastic DIY dog soap bar recipe is all natural and contains a number of essential oils along with oatmeal.
This is a great flea and tick repellent dog shampoo and it’s also anti itch to help keep your pet calm if they need a soothing shampoo.
Whilst I think homemade is always fun, making your own DIY dog shampoo bar will allow you to know exactly what you’re putting on your dog’s skin and fur.
I want my pets to have chemical free products as often as possible. It’s better for their skin and better for dog health in general.
Furthermore homemade dog shampoo bars can help save on plastic and environmental waste as well as save money as they are often cheaper to make in batch than buying expensive anti flea and tick shampoo from a specialist store.
If you need any advice on how to give a dog a bath or what shampoo to make when your dog has fleas then look no further!

STEP 1: In a microwave safe bowl, melt soap base in microwave in 30 second intervals until completely melted.
STEP 2: Repeat with the Shea butter and coconut oil and add to soap base bowl.
STEP 3: Add lemongrass essential oil.
This essential oil has been shown to repel fleas and ticks on dogs while being completely safe to use on them. It also has skin healing properties.
STEP 4: Add cedarwood essential oil.
This oil is perfect to add to your homemade dog shampoo. It’s not only been shown to repel fleas and ticks, but it can also keep their skin healthy and relax them.
STEP 5: Add lavender essential oil. This oil has great calming effects, and it can also calm irritated skin.
My dog gets dry skin in the summer and scratches a good bit. Lavender oil is one of the best DIY dog shampoo essential oils to help to help with irritated skin.
STEP 6: Add chamomile essential oil. I used this oil because it can calm irritated skin, and it acts as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

It helps with hot spots on your dog’s skin too.
STEP 7: Add oatmeal and mix everything together.
I used oatmeal in this dog soap recipe because it is great for soothing any skin irritations and itchy skin your dog may have.
STEP 8: Sprinkle a bit of the oatmeal into the mold and then fill the mold evenly with soap/essential oil mixture.
STEP 9: Spray with rubbing alcohol.
STEP 10: Allow to harden for at least two hours.
Your homemade dog soap is now ready! I recommend storing your dog shampoo bars in a plastic bag or a container with a lid.
You can also use the essential oils in a spray in between washings. Add 10 drops of each oil in a bottle and fill with distilled water. Spray on your dog’s coat and gently rub in.
I hope these beautiful DIY dog shampoo bars come in handy and make a special treat for your dog when they are itchy and need some extra TLC.
