Donkey Sauce (Copycat Recipe)

Every good burger needs an epically delicious sauce to make it unforgettable, and this Donkey Sauce is just that! With a crazy name like Donkey Sauce, you know it will be good. It is effortless to make, but it is packed full of flavor. You can think of Donkey Sauce as a spin on roasted garlic aioli, and you will want to put it on everything!

This recipe is adapted from Guy Fieri’s recipe for Donkey Sauce. and it is seriously delicious. I could not stop eating it! The key to making this sauce is to roast the garlic first. This brings out the natural sweetness of the garlic and gives it a wonderful depth of flavor.

Try dipping these grilled potato wedges or some air fryer jojo wedges in the Donkey Sauce. You can even slather it on some air fryer loaded baked potatoes.

Why This Recipe Works

If you are a sauce fanatic like me, you will want a healthy supply of Donkey Sauce in your fridge, ready to deploy at any moment! This Donkey Sauce is perfect on pretty much everything.

  • Quick and easy. Simply roast the garlic until it is super soft, and combine the ingredients.
  • It is loaded with flavor. The roasted garlic is buttery and sweet and pairs perfectly with the tangy-sweet flavor of the Worcestershire sauce.
  • Creamy. This really is a garlic aioli on steroids.
  • Perfect on anything. Load it up on some sliders or burgers. It also is delicious with fish and chips.

How to Make Donkey Sauce

This is just a quick overview of the recipe. Scroll down to the printable recipe card for all the details.

  1. Roast the garlic. Cut the top of the garlic bulb off and drizzle some olive oil over the bulb, allowing it to seep in between each garlic clove. Loosely wrap the bulb of garlic in foil and bake until golden brown and soft.
  2. Combine the ingredients. Squeeze the garlic bulb into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Mix the Donkey Sauce. Thoroughly mix the ingredients until well combined.
  4. Now go spread this sauce on some amazing smash burgers.

Tips for Success

  • The more you mix the sauce, the more the garlic will break down. Mix it until you get the desired texture. I like to keep some chunks of garlic in my sauce!
  • Store in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.
  • Let the sauce sit in the fridge for an hour or two before serving. This will give time for the flavors to meld together and let the roasted garlic shine.
  • If you want to add a little heat to the sauce, add a few dashes of Tabasco sauce or Sriracha sauce.

This recipe is perfect for burgers, but it is also a great aioli for our air-fried tilapia or parmesan chicken tenders. However, you use it, make it a complete meal and serve it with a grilled Romaine salad, some crusty bread, and air fryer brownies or banana cake for dessert.
