Essential oil roller blends are one of the easiest and most convenient ways to use essential oils. Roller blends are hands down my favorite way to use essential oils.

If you don’t know what a roller blend is it’s basically just a blend of essential oils, diluted with a carrier oil, inside a glass roller bottle, with a little roller tip.

Many essential oils have to be diluted prior to applying to the skin but with roller blends everything is already diluted. That’s what makes essential oil roller bottles so great.
Roller bottles are super easy to take with you when you are on the go. You can simply toss them in your purse or keep a few in the car.
I love essential oil roller bottles so much that I decided to compile a list of the absolute best essential oil roller bottle recipes.
But before you start to put together these recipes I want to make sure you have the right products and tools.
The first thing you’ll need is roller bottles. You can purchase roller bottles in different sizes, colors, and materials.
I always, always, always recommend using glass! Plastic rollers should never be used with essential oils.
Pure essential oils are very potent and the plastic may begin to deteriorate and leach into the essential oils over time.
You also want to make sure the roller bottle you choose has a metal rollerball. Again, it’s best to avoid plastic.
Most roller bottles come in 5ml, 10ml, or 15ml sizes. The size you choose isn’t as important as the material and it’s really up to you in regard to which size you choose.
Although, I recommend stocking up on 10ml bottles mostly because that is what all the recipes below are made to go in as well as most other roller bottle recipes you’ll come across.
But of course, the recipes can always be adjusted to go into a smaller or larger bottle if needed.
Essential oil roller bottles come in many different colors. And the color you choose really just comes down to preference.
It’s best to choose a dark color because essential oils can go bad if exposed to ultraviolet radiation.
But with that being said, I have a variety of different color roller bottles including clear. I just make sure to store my roller bottles in a small essential oil bag like this one when not in use.
That way they aren’t being exposed to light for long periods of time.
My absolute favorite place to buy roller bottles for essential oils is on Etsy at the shop Baggage&Co. They have some of the most absolutely gorgeous roller bottles that you’ll ever see.
I also buy roller bottles on Amazon from time to time. My favorites are these basic amber glass roller bottles and these rainbow glass ones.

When making essential oil roller recipes you are also going to need a carrier oil. The carrier oil is used to dilute the essential oils.
The carrier oil you choose will depend on what type of roller you are making. I recommend using an organic carrier oil whenever possible.
The most popular types of carrier oils and the ones I recommend are below.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is my go-to carrier oil for the majority of my favorite essential oil roller recipes. It’s colorless and odorless, it absorbs easily into the skin, and it is very affordable.
The only time I avoid using coconut oil is when the roller bottle I am making will be applied to the face. Coconut oil is a moderately comedogenic oil and can clog your pores.
You should also make sure you choose fractionated coconut oil. Non-fractionated coconut oil will harden if it gets too cold and fractionated coconut oil does not. Fractionated coconut oil stays liquid at any temperature.
My favorite coconut oil is Viva Naturals organic fractionated coconut oil.
Almond Oil
Almond oil is also odorless. It’s not quite as colorless as coconut oil. It has a slight brown tint to it. Almond oil is around the same price as fractionated coconut oil.
Other than the color (which is hardly noticeable really) it works just as well as coconut oil. It has a lower comedogenic rating than coconut oil so it can be applied to the face.
My favorite coconut oil is Viva Naturals sweet almond oil.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is made from the seeds of the jojoba plant. Unrefined jojoba oil (which is what you want) has a slightly nutty odor and is a golden color. Jojoba oil is rich in vitamin e and it is also non-comedogenic which makes it perfect for use in rollers that will be applied to the face.
Jojoba oil is a bit more pricey. It is about 3x the price of coconut oil or almond oil. My favorite is Viva Naturals organic jojoba oil.
Rosehip Oil
Rosehip oil has a slightly woody smell and its color ranges from golden to orange to yellow.
Rosehip oil, also known as rosehip seed oil, is derived from the rosa canina rose bush. It is a very lightweight oil and is easily absorbed into the skin.
Rosehip oil is very pricey and will cost you even more than jojoba oil. But it has a very low comedogenic rating which makes it perfect for roller bottles made for the face.
My favorite rosehip oil is once again sold by Viva Naturals.
Essential Oil For Roller Bottles
When making essential oil recipes for roller bottles the most important decision you’re going to make is the brand of essential oils you choose to use.
Not all essential oils are created equally and not only do some work better than others but some don’t work at all.

As I mentioned earlier most essential oils should be diluted before applying to the skin. The dilution rate will depend on what essential oils are being used and what you are using them for.
For average daily use, a 2% dilution rate is recommended. For more acute situations where you will be using the roller blend for a short amount of time a 5-10% dilution rate is recommended.
The essential oil recipes for roller bottles below have already been properly diluted but if you want to learn more about diluting essential oils so you can make your own custom blends I recommend reading this article.
Roller bottles can be filled in several different ways. I like to add my essential oils first and my carrier oil second. But it really doesn’t matter which one you add first as long as you leave enough room for each one.
You can fill the roller bottle using a funnel like this one. Simply remove the lid and rollerball and place the funnel on top of the bottle and fill.
You can also use a dropper like this one. I don’t really recommend it though because it can be unnecessarily time-consuming.
If you have a steady hand you may not need either of those tools. You can simply pour the essential oils and carrier oil directly from the bottles straight into the roller bottle.
That is what I usually do. But it really just comes down to what is easiest for you and what you are most comfortable doing.
Before adding your oils you’ll need to open your essential oil roller bottle. This little tool makes opening roller bottles so easy. Although it isn’t completely necessary. You can open the bottles just by using your hands.
But some people do find it difficult. If that is the case for you, you will love this tool!
To mix essential oils for a roller bottle first make sure the rollerball and lid are attached tightly. Then all you have to do is shake gently back and forth.
Essential oil roller bottles are easy to reuse. If you plan to refill it with the same blend you had in it before you can just go ahead and add the essential oils and carrier oils to the bottle. There is no need to clean the bottle.
But if you are adding a completely different blend you’ll need to clean out the roller bottle first.
To clean roller bottles first make sure the roller bottle is completely empty. Then rinse the roller bottle inside and out with warm/hot water.
Next, fill your sink or a large bowl with hot/warm soapy water. Fill the roller bottle with hot soapy water, attach the lid, and place it in the bowl or sink.
Let soak for 5-10 minutes. Then remove from the water.
If you are trying to remove a label from the bottle go ahead and do that now by peeling it off and removing the excess residue with your finger. If there is any sticky substance left behind add a few drops of lemon essential oil to a cotton ball and wipe across the sticky area.
Lemon essential oil will completely remove any excess sticky residue.
Now go ahead and remove the roller bottle lid and pour out the water inside. Apply a drop or two of dish soap to a small wire brush like this one. Scrub the inside of the roller bottle and the roller ball with the brush for a few minutes.
You can also add a little bit of white vinegar to the inside of the bottle to help with odor elimination. Rinse thoroughly with warm/hot water.
Let air dry for 24 hours.
If after drying, the bottle is still heavily scented with the previous roller blend repeat the steps above.
Essential oil roller bottles are used in different ways. It depends on the type of blend. Most roller blends are applied to the spine, wrists, or collarbone area. Some are applied to the face, bottoms of feet, or stomach.
It’s not a one size fits all rule. It just depends on the type of roller blend you plan to use. You’ll find information on how to use each specific roller blend below.
Allergy Relief Roller Bottle Recipe
Add 10 drops of lemon essential oil, 10 drops of lavender essential oil, and 10 drops of peppermint essential oil to a 10ml roller bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with coconut oil. Attach the roller ball and shake well.
Apply to wrists and spine several times throughout the day.
Mood-Boosting Roller Bottle Recipe
Add 5 drops of ylang-ylang essential oil, 5 drops of orange essential oil, and 5 drops of bergamot essential oil to a 10ml roller bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with coconut oil. Attach the roller ball and shake well.
Apply to wrists, spine, and collarbone several times throughout the day.
Digestive Support Roller Blend Recipe
Add 5 drops of ginger essential oil, 5 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 3 drops of tarragon essential oil to a 10ml roller bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with coconut oil. Attach the roller ball and shake well.
Apply to the abdomen area several times throughout the day as needed.
Essential Oil Roller Blend For Anxiety
Add 6 drops of lavender essential oil, 6 drops of orange essential oil, and 6 drops of frankincense essential oil to a 10ml roller bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with coconut oil. Attach the roller ball and shake well.
Apply to wrists, spine, and collarbone several times throughout the day.
Sore Muscle Relief Roller Bottle Recipe
Add 6 drops of eucalyptus essential oil, 6 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 6 drops of spearmint essential oil to a 10ml roller bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with coconut oil. Attach the roller ball and shake well.
Apply directly to sore muscles several times throughout the day.
Thieves Oil Recipe For Rollerball
Add 15 drops of Thieves essential oil to a 10ml roller bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with coconut oil. Attach the roller ball and shake well.

Apply to wrists, spine, and collarbone several times throughout the day and apply to the bottoms of your feet at night before bed.

Nausea Relief Roller Blend Recipe
Add 8 drops of ginger essential oil, 7 drops of fennel essential oil, and 4 drops of peppermint essential oil to a 10ml roller bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with coconut oil. Attach the roller ball and shake well.
Apply to wrists, spine, and collarbone as needed.
Immune Boosting Essential Oil Roller Recipe
This immune-boosting essential oil roller recipe is made with the most powerful immune-boosting essential oils.
Whenever you want to give your immune system a boost simply apply the roller bottle to the bottom of your feet or roll it onto your spine.
Essential Oil Pimple Roller Blend Recipe
This DIY pimple roller blend is made with acne-fighting essential oils such as tea tree and lavender. This roller blend is used to fight acne and banish blemishes.
To use this DIY pimple roller blend simply roll the roller blend on the affected area and allow it to dry completely.
Anti-aging Wrinkle Roller Blend
This roller blend is perfect for reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It’s made with rosehip oil and lavender, frankincense, and helichrysum essential oils.
To use this roller blend gently roll directly onto fine lines or age spots and massage in gently. Make sure to only apply to clean, dry skin.

This roller blend is great for battling under-eye puffiness and wrinkles. It is made with copaiba and frankincense essential oils.
Gently roll in the under-eye area and gently pat into the skin with your fingertip. Avoid getting essential oils directly near the eye.
It’s best to use this at night before bed because it takes a little while for the oils to absorb into the skin.
Bug Bite Relief Roller Blend Recipe
I love this roller blend. It can help provide quick relief from itchy, painful bug bites.
Gently roll the bottle between your hands before each use. Apply to the affected area as often as needed.
