21 Essential Oil Recipes for Psoriasis; A Natural Treatment

Published by
James marcus

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease which shows up as a patchy red rash that itches and only gets worse if we touch it. While there are suitable medicinal treatments, there is something about treating our health issues naturally that seems safer. Essential oils are the organic solution you’ve been looking for.

Plaque psoriasis, which can appear on the scalp, is itchy and painful. You can use these compounds to create a soothing blend or shampoo to treat your symptoms. Here are 21 essential oil recipes for psoriasis.

Geranium Oil

The primary oil in this blend is great when it comes to reducing inflammation, which is a primary issue with psoriasis. Geranium oil has also been used to give blood circulation a boost, which can aid psoriasis symptoms.

Ingredients & Materials:

  • 1 10-ml amber bottle with dropper
  • 5 drops geranium
  • Fractionated coconut oil

Directions:

Put the geranium oil in your amber bottle. Fill the rest of the way with the coconut oil. Shake well and use on affected area twice a day. Be sure to do a spot check and do not use if you suffer from high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease.

Peppermint Oil

Itching is a major issue with psoriasis, which can be curbed with the right amount of peppermint essential oil. This spray should bring relief.

Ingredients & Materials:

  • Spray bottle
  • One cup distilled water
  • 5 – 7 drops peppermint

Directions:

Add five drops of the peppermint to the spray bottle and then fill with one cup of distilled water. Mix and spray. If it isn’t as powerful as you prefer then add the 2 additional drops.

Fast and Easy Tea Tree Ointment

Also known as Melaleuca, this powerful oil has been used by the natives in Australia for generations. As for psoriasis, tea tree oil promotes healthy immunity, which is the source of this problem.

Ingredients:

  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil

Directions:

Cover the affected area with a decent amount of coconut oil and then add a drop or two of tea tree and mix in. Try one drop at a time since this is a very strong oil.

Cream To Battle Psoriasis

What I love about this is you get to pick the oils you prefer from the following; helichrysum, thyme, bergamot, cedarwood, lavender, melaleuca/tea tree, patchouli, Roman chamomile, juniper berry, and rosemary. Each of them battles psoriasis in their own way.

Ingredients & Materials:

  • 10 drops of favorite essential oils
  • 2 teaspoons of coconut oil
  • Jar or container

Directions:

Put the coconut oil in your chosen container and then add your oils. Mix well and store in a cool, dry place. Use for treatment and prevention of symptoms.

Another Recipe With Essential Oils

Not all essential oils are the same, but as you saw in our last recipe, there are quite a few that battle psoriasis. In this recipe, we take two favorites and a carrier oil everyone has in their cupboard.

Ingredients:

  • 3 drops lavender
  • 3 drops frankincense
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Directions:

Mix essential oils with coconut oil and apply to the affected area. The scents should also ease any stress associated with the disorder.

Bath Moisturizer

Here we have a recipe that should soothe you in the bath and will last after you climb out. It’s easy to make, and the ingredients will also help fight infections if your skin is broken up.

Ingredients:

  • 4 drops lavender
  • 4 drops bergamot
  • 2 drops German chamomile
  • 1 teaspoon virgin cold pressed olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 1 cup oats
  • ½ cup dead sea salt

Directions:

Place all of the ingredients in a pop-sock or old nylon you have in your drawer. Put it in the bath with you and continue to squeeze. The salt should dissolve and the oats will release milk.

Aloe Vera After The Bath

Now that all the salt has dissolved out of your pop sock, it’s time to put on an added layer of protection.

Ingredients:

  • 100ml seaweed and aloe vera gel (or another moisturizing cream base)
  • 10ml jojoba oil
  • 10ml vitamin E oil
  • 10ml avocado oil
  • 4ml tea tree
  • 4ml patchouli
  • 10ml lavender
  • 10ml bergamot
  • 3 drops of German chamomile

Directions:

Mix all the scents with the carrier oils in the container of your choice and stir well. Make sure it is kept airtight and in a cool, dry place.

  • 1 drop ylang-ylang
  • 3 drops mandarin
  • 11 drops lavender
  • 1 drop clary sage

Directions:

Bathe With Magnesium

While soaking in a bath isn’t recommended for psoriasis, there are exceptions to the rule. Magnesium helps heal the flare-up, along with the scents.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Himalayan Salt
  • 1-3 cups of magnesium flakes and Epsom salts
  • 10-25 drops of your favorite essential oils
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Directions:

Add these ingredients together in a non-reactive bowl and add to a warm bath.

Tea Tree For The Scalp

Psoriasis doesn’t only show up on the face and other visible areas of the body. The scalp is also susceptible. This recipe is designed for that specific area breakout.

Ingredients:

  • 10 drops tea tree
  • 10 drops lavender
  • 3 ounces of hydrosol/hydrolat
  • 5 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar

Directions:

  • 5 teaspoons avocado oil
  • 5 teaspoons borage seed or evening primrose oil
  • 15 drops tea tree
  • 5 drops myrrh

Directions:

Blend all the ingredients together and apply to your patches twice a day.

Bergamot And Lavender Bath

Here we have another bathing recipe that has powerful scents. The lavender oil specifically fights infections.

Ingredients:

  • 4 drops bergamot
  • 4 drops lavender
  • 2 drops German chamomile
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 cup of oats
  • ½ cup dead sea salt

Directions:

Mix all of the above ingredients in a non-reactive bowl and then put it in a pop sock. Place in the tub and use until the salt dissolves and the oat milk has come through.

Soothing Psoriasis Blend

This recipe calls for a larger container, but it’s a great one to have around when a flare-up occurs. Who wants to be blending oils when the itching is out of control?

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup sweet almond oil
  • 30 drops lavender
  • 30 drops frankincense
  • 20 drops sandalwood
  • 20 drops geranium

Directions:

Mix all of the above ingredients together and store in a dark amber bottle. Keep in a dry place that is cool.

Heal At Night Blend

The combination of carriers like jojoba and sweet almond make for a blend that is helpful while you sleep.

Ingredients & Materials:

  • Amber bottle with glass dropper
  • Jojoba oil
  • 3 teaspoons sweet almond oil
  • 10 drops bergamot

Directions:

Fill the amber glass bottle halfway with jojoba oil. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Apply to your patches before bedtime.

Scalp Massage For Psoriasis

Here we have another blend of scents and a reliable carrier that can help when the patches reach your scalp.

Ingredients & Materials:

  • Plastic applicator bottle
  • ½ cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 3 drops eucalyptus
  • 3 drops oregano

Directions:

Mix all of the ingredients into the applicator bottle. Shake well and begin to apply as you massage it into your scalp with your fingers. Use the spout of the bottle to part your hair.

Oatmeal And Lavender Relaxation Bath

If you’ve been reading my posts in Better Mind Body Soul then you might know that lavender oil is one of my faves. Here we use it with oatmeal to make a soothing bathing experience.

Ingredients:

  • A handful of colloidal oatmeal
  • ¼ cup of dead sea salt
  • 3-5 drops of lavender

Directions:

Put all of the ingredients in your tub and soak in it to soothe pain, itching, and inflammation.

Gel Of Geranium

This blend works nicely when your skin starts to become inflamed. The combination of aloe vera and geranium oil not only soothes, but it will also seal in the moisture.

Ingredients & Materials:

  • 4 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
  • 5-7 drops of geranium
  • Glass jar

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients in the jar and apply to affected skin.

Helichrysum Roll-On

Here we have a recipe that uses an oil we haven’t talked about much. Helichrysum is a natural anti-inflammatory and can soothe the affected areas.

Ingredients & Materials:

  • 10ml roll-on bottle
  • Borage seed oil
  • 3-5 drops helichrysum

Directions:

Add the borage oil until it fills the bottle and then put drops of the essential oil. Shake well. Roll onto the scales left by psoriasis for soothing relief.

Sandalwood Soothing Blend

Here we have another powerful oil that helps ease the issues associated with psoriasis. It does so by sealing in moisture and softening the scales caused by dryness.

Ingredients & Materials:

  • Small mason jar
  • 4 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 5-7 drops sandalwood

Directions:

Put ingredients into the mason jar and mix well. Apply directly to the skin for a calming and soothing effect.

Cream Of Chamomile

Lavender isn’t the only soothing scent. German chamomile also possesses relaxation compounds, which works great with psoriasis.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces raw shea butter
  • 10 drops chamomile
  • 7 drops peppermint

Directions:

Soften the shea butter in a double boiler slowly. Do not melt it. When soft, put it in a mason jar and then add your scents. Mix with a spatula and store for later use.

Compress With Clary Sage

Our last recipe has a scent we haven’t covered yet. Clary sage is also a powerful anti-inflammatory, which we’ve seen to work well with psoriasis. It also works as an antiseptic. Compresses help with softening the scaly skin and bringing down the inflammation.

Ingredients:

  • Non-reactive bowl
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 3-5 drops clary sage

Directions:

Put the water and clary sage in the bowl and mix. Submerge a washcloth, wring it out, and apply to the affected areas. Keep doing this until the water is no longer warm. Finish off with some coconut oil.

Conclusion

Psoriasis has been associated with an immunity issue, which very well may be the case. As sufferers, we want to know the cause, but we also want a solution fast. Especially when it starts to pop up on our skin.
