What is Gordon Ramsay’s Tartar Sauce?

In order to make Gordon Ramsay’s tartar sauce, you will need mayonnaise (egg yolk, mustard or vinegar, bitartrate, oil) or aioli (olive oil, garlic), in addition to a few other ingredients like herbs and lemon juice. Mayonnaise is made by combining egg yolks with mustard or vinegar, bitartrate, and oil. Aioli is made by combining olive oil and garlic.

The majority of the time, tartar sauce is served alongside fish dishes like fish and chips, as well as certain types of seafood like lobster, meat dishes, and baked dishes.

Tartar sauce is often an off-white color and has herbs and other things added. Tartar sauce has a creamy texture and a briny, tangy flavor.

Which Mayonnaise is Ideal for Tartar Sauce?

For the best flavor, use either Hellman’s Real Mayonnaise, Best Foods Mayonnaise, or Heinz Mayonnaise. This tartar sauce relies heavily on mayonnaise. Therefore, it’s crucial that it tastes good.

What is Tartar Sauce Eaten With?

Tartar sauce is typically served with seafood like crab cakes and fish and chips, but in our family, we like to eat it with vegetables. Some of our favorite ways to enjoy it include pairing it with vegetables that have been roasted or air-fried until they are crispy.

Recipe Tips

  • This easy-to-make tartar sauce is better than anything you can buy at the store. It is very creamy and perfect for serving with your favorite seafood dishes.
  • Mayonnaise provides a creamy base. You can use store-bought mayonnaise, or for the best tartar sauce, try making your own.
  • Pickles add crunch and flavor to the sauce. We use dill pickles and especially enjoy refrigerated Clausen pickles for this. If you prefer a sweeter style, try bread and butter or sweet pickles.
  • The best tartar sauce requires fresh lemon juice. It thins the sauce, making it the perfect consistency for dipping, and it adds a tangy flavor.
  • Capers are an optional ingredient because we don’t always have them in the refrigerator, but they add more flavor and enhance the flavor of the lemon and herbs.
  • For us, fresh or dried dill is essential. Dried dill is a good substitute for dill if you don’t have it.
  • Worcestershire sauce is an unusual ingredient, but it brings the sauce together. It is great to add to other other marinades and sauces as well. Mustard is another optional ingredient that you can use when making the sauce.
