Easily DIY your own homemade Moisturizing Liquid Hand Soap and choose your favorite fragrance with essential oils.

It’s no secret by now that I love all things homemade and handmade. Whether I’m sewing up Easter baskets for the grandkids or making a batch of our kids favorite cookies or even making my own bathroom cleaner and sugar scrubs.

Then there are people like my husband who creates beautiful pens, boxes, tables, ornaments and more out of wood. Or my neighbor who spends hours every day making quilts for her family. Or another neighbor who carves exquisitely detailed birds. Oh, and his wife who works magic with woven baskets.

These people amaze me. They are talented and skilled in ways that I am not. Kinda like my brother who can sketch anything he can imagine. I’m sure you know people who are artists or skilled at making things with their hands, imagination, and heart.

DIY Homemade Moisturizing Liquid Hand Soap

Well, today, I’m talking about something a little simpler – hand soap. It takes no creativity or special skills or talent to make homemade moisturizing liquid hand soap. Just a few simple ingredients.

I’ve actually tried a couple different recipes. My husband prefers to pour his hand soap, so I use a 4:1 ratio of water to soap for him. But, if you like your hand soap to be a little thicker, you can certainly use a 1:1 ratio.

Equipment Needed:

  • glass soap dispenser
  • measuring cup

Ingredients Needed:

Below is a list of the supplies you’ll need for the ingredients. The exact amounts are listed below in the how-to card.

  • castille soap
  • distilled water
  • essential oil(s)
  • vitamin E (optional)
  • coconut oil or almond oil (optional)

You don’t have to make this liquid hand soap moisturizing. Simply omit the Vitamin E, liquid coconut oil or almond oil.

FAQs – DIY Homemade Liquid Hand Soap

What is castile soap?

Castile soap can come in liquid or bar form, but it is made only from vegetable oils — in other words, no animal fats. Castile soap is a very concentrated liquid primarily made of coconut, olive, and hemp oils, but other oils like avocado, almond, and walnut can also be used.

Also, something to keep in mind. Castile soap is alkaline based. It has the same level of pH as baking soda. So you do NOT want to use it with vinegar. As the two kind of cancel out the effectiveness of each and will leave a white reside behind that is hard to remove.

Do I have to use essential oil?

No, you do not have to use essential oil. But the essential oil does two things, one it has a natural aromatherapy property and secondly it adds a pleasant scent to your hand soap.

Are there alternatives to castile soap?

Instead of castile soap you can try one of these alternatives:

  • coconut soap
  • goat’s milk soap
  • marseille soap
  • aleppo soap
