At Vogt, we’re sort of … obsessed with taking care of kitchen sink and faucet fixtures. This isn’t your average kitchen cleaning rodeo. So, like the luxury kitchenware nerds that we are, we conducted an experiment to test the best cleaning methods for your faucet, and you’ll be surprised at the outcome. Keep reading so you can know the good, avoid the bad and steer clear of the ugly cleaning products and methods that will ruin your kitchen faucet. We’ve broken down the results in a rapid-fire guide below.

We tested 9 different cleaning agents so you don’t have to – and the results might surprise you.
In our experiment, we tried everything:
We used a variety of cleaning products, from common household cleaners to paint thinners and paint remover, to clean our Vogt faucets in the experiment.
While you may be inclined to reach for harsher chemical cleaning agents such as bleach, the best cleaning tools in your arsenal are the cheapest and most accessible.

Do not use any harsh abrasive cleaners (like CLR or Vim) on your faucet nor any steel or abrasive sponges to clean the faucet. If you are experiencing limescale build up, a mixture of equal parts baking soda and vinegar will surely do the trick. Apply this magic mix to the areas with build up, let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, and then wipe it away.
Soap and hot water is enough to achieve optimal cleaning results without compromising the finish of the fixtures, while simultaneously killing bacteria. Plus, it’s easy to do – simply soap up your cloth of choice (more on that in a moment) and give your faucet a scrub while you’re doing the dishes or taking a bath.
Not only is mixing cleaning products unnecessary, as soap alone will get the job done, but it is also hazardous and can pose risks to your health.
Through our experiment, we found that each of the individual cleaning products we used were effective on their own – however when mixed together, they can have potentially dangerous effects.
For future reference, here are a few seemingly common cleaning combinations that you should avoid entirely. Cue Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and dive on in.
While both of these products are natural and effective on their own, when combined, they form a toxic mixture known as peracetic acid. This type of acid is corrosive and can damage the surface you’re cleaning, as well as your skin, eyes and respiratory system.

When vinegar and bleach are combined, the vinegar releases toxic chlorine, making it safe to say they should never be combined – no pun intended. Both on their own are effective cleaning agents (when used in moderate amounts, so they don’t tarnish the finish of your fixtures), but they should never be combined.
While you’re polishing up your faucet’s shine, you might be tempted to multi-task and unclog your kitchen sink. Good for you – but beware. Don’t use multiple types of drain cleaners, as this could create a harmful reaction in your drain. If you must do a full deep-clean of your sink, stick to one. Your future self will thank you.
It’s essential that you always wipe down your faucet after cleaning – whether you have Vogt’s Zehn faucet or the Kapfenberg. Allowing the cleaning products to sit on your faucet’s finish will leave a residue that needs to be cleaned off separately.
An easy habit that you can incorporate into your daily cleaning routine is to use a soft cloth to dry off excess water sitting on the faucet. We recommend a soft microfiber cloth for best results.
All of our Vogt faucets are designed with high-quality, luxury materials that are built to keep their shine and finish intact. Our Drava kitchen faucets are a dream option for easy cleaning, with cascading, curved spouts for a smooth wipe down at the end of the day, they’re an aesthetic option that would be easy to maintain.
