3 Tricks to Remove Mildew From Outdoor Cushions

Cushions are a great way to add a splash of colour and personal flair to your outdoor entertaining area—but if left untouched, outdoor furniture cushions can start looking grimy and green rather than vibrant and clean. This is especially true for outdoor cushions Brisbane-wide or outdoor cushions Melbourne-wide, where the weather is often unpredictable. If your outdoor cushions start to develop mildew, it’s not the end of the world. You don’t have to rush out and buy replacement cushions. With a bit of time and elbow grease, you’ll have sparkling clean cushions once more. Here are the 3 tricks to remove mildew from outdoor cushions!

Outdoor Patio Cushions

The first step is to thoroughly hose down the affected cushions. Wash off as much dirt and grime as possible with a high-pressure hose before moving onto the next step. Bonus—hose your cushions down out on the lawn to nourish your garden at the same time!

Scrubbing Your Outdoor Furniture Cushions

First, check the label of your outdoor cushion to make sure it’s suitable for bleaching. If all is well, take a spray bottle and fill it with ¾ bleach and ¼ water. Spray your Warwick fabric cushions or other outdoor cushions thoroughly with the solution, and finish it off by scrubbing with a suitable brush.

If you don’t have access to bleach, Borax is another effective mildew remover. Mix together a solution of ¼ Borax and ¾ water, and use a cloth to rub the stained area. After a few hours of soaking, rinse the fabric with clean water to reveal good-as-new cushions.

Alternatively, try these natural solutions on your outdoor bench cushions

If your cushions aren’t suitable for bleaching, try using a non-abrasive, natural solution for cleaning instead. White vinegar diluted with water is great for light stains, while heavier stains are best tackled with a generous spray of full-strength vinegar.

Alternatively, a mix of salt and lemon juice makes for an effective cushion cleaner. Blend together one teaspoon of salt and two tablespoons of lemon juice, then rub the solution over the affected cushion with a cloth. Wipe down after about an hour.
