Bridges are an important thing to consider when building up your island in Animal Crossing New Horizons. They allow you to reach areas blocked by rivers, and will improve the overall aesthetic of your island. Building them is expensive, time consuming and downright difficult, but it’s worth it for how much easier they’ll make your day to day life. Here’s how to build bridges.

To build bridges in Animal Crossing New Horizons you’ll need to speak to Tom Nook at Resident Services (the upgraded building, more on that here). Sit down in the chair in front of him and select ‘Let’s talk infrastructure’. You can then choose to build a bridge. There are a number of bridges to choose from, ranging in prices. Once you’ve picked a bridge, go and place it where you want it to be built. Construction will then begin.

Despite the bridge being a community project, you will need to donate the Bells to make the bridge. If residents donate at all, they do so in such small amounts that construction would take too long. We recommend raising the funds yourself (info on making money in this guide).
If you find that you would like to delete a bridge, head to Tom Nook. Once again, select the island infrastructure option and then choose to talk about bridges. From here you can demolish bridges.
