Are you thinking of changing up your cabinet doors? If so, you need to know how to hang cabinet doors, especially if you’re going to do it DIY. Switching out your cabinet doors is a great way to modernize your home and give your kitchen a fresh, new look. Whether you choose to installnew cabinets or want to refinish your existing ones, hanging kitchen cabinet doors yourself is a great way to save money and get exactly what you want. Here are the 5 steps you’ll need for hanging cabinet doors.

Install the Cabinet Door Hinges

The first step in hanging cabinet doors is to install hinges. If you removed the hinges from the door already, you should be able to locate the initial screw holes. Line up the hinges with the holes and secure them with a hand drive screwdriver. Because new doors may not have pre-drilled hinge holes, put them 1 12-2 in, or 3.8-5.1 cm, from the top and bottom of the door to provide appropriate door support.

Check the Door Fit With the Cabinet

Step 2 in hanging cabinet doors is to check that the cabinet doors fit the cabinet. Overlay doors and half-inset doors are just two of the many types of cabinet doors from which you can choose. Most doors should overhang the opening by 34 inches, but the main determining factor will be on the style of the door and the type of hinges. Hinge Outlet, Inc. has many types of cabinet door hinges, so you’ll always find the right high-quality door hinge that will suit your cabinet door.

Inspect the Cabinet for Any Pre-Drilled Holes

The third step for hanging cabinet doors is to inspect the cabinet for any pre-drills holes. This will help you determine where the hinges are attached to the cabinet. If you notice holes on the exterior or inside, you’ll know where the hinges are. If you can’t find any holes, read the instructions that come with your hinges and use a power drill to make the holes yourself.

Install the Cabinet Door(s)

It’s finally time to install your cabinet doors! Start by installing the knobs or handles of the cabinet door with a screwdriver. Attach the hinges to the cabinet using the screwdriver. It’s probably a good idea to have someone help you hang the door to make sure it’s accurate and even.Pro tip: for the best cabinet door installation, remember to always use high-quality cabinet hinges, like those from Hinge Outlet, Inc. If you’re attaching the hinges to the interior of the cabinet, make sure the door is open. This is another reason it’s good to have someone to help you, as they can hold the door open while you fix the screws. If you plan on having a latch on your cabinet door, remember to fasten it to the cabinet’s matching place, which is often opposite the upper corner of the door and the hinges. Finally, to complete the installation of the cabinet door, use a screwdriver to attach the cabinet pulls or knobsif necessary.

Aligning All the Cabinet Doors

This final step for hanging cabinet doors is the one that people often skip, but it’s important! Double checking the alignment of all the cabinet doors is crucial for making sure nothing is askew. Align the cabinet doors by opening the door you just hung and stretching a piece of tape across the bottom front edge of the remaining cabinets from the hinged corner of the door. The door should cover around half of the tape, leaving the other half exposed. Then, use a lever and draw a line beneath the aperture for the second cabinet door while holding the lever against the bottom of the first cabinet door. This line will give you the correct angle to align the second door with the first. Once you’ve done that, you can move onto hanging the remaining doors. To hang the second door, repeat all of the instructions from the preceding section. Align the bottom of the door with the line you established with the tape. Once the door is in place, run a lever down the bottom of both doors to check they are parallel.
