It is safe to say that your journey to cooking up a storm has begun.
But, wait! Have you figured out which attachment goes where? Moreover, do you know how to properly attach the KitchenAid stand mixer attachments without damaging your precious mixer? What about how to remove KitchenAid attachments?
Don’t worry! I have you covered. Soon, you’ll know everything about attaching and removing all those KitchenAid attachments, and what to do when an attachment gets stuck.
You’ve unboxed all the fancy stuff, and the machine is ready to roll. But, what about those attachments and their pecking order?
Should you attach the mixing bowl first or the beater and dough hook?
Really, the sequence doesn’t really matter. Luckily for us, bakers and cooks, KitchenAid mixing and other attachments are easy to attach and remove. Here’s a quick video that perfectly demonstrates how to attach the basic attachments to the beater shaft.
Before you start attaching them to the stand mixer, we first need to choose which attachment to use. If you’re planning to whip or emulsify ingredients, opt for the whisk. To make bread or pasta dough, keep the dough hook ready, and for mashing boiled tubers or mixing batters and dips, select the flat beater.
Before you do anything, make sure to unplug the mixer from the power source and ensure the speed control is turned to OFF/00.
I suggest doing this every time before you attach any attachments to the stand mixer. Sure, it’s a little extra hassle, but this safety precaution not only protects you but your expensive mixer from damage!

Now that you have all the proper items in place, let’s start attaching some of those accessories. All of the standard mixing accessories that come with your mixer (the wire whip, beater, and dough hook) are connected under the mixer head.
To attach your beater, whip, or dough hook:
My Top Tip: After the first use, clean the attachment shaft every time before you attach your dough hook, whips, and beaters. This removes any food residue and prevents the beater from getting stuck!
While most stand mixers some ready to go out of the box, on rare occasions, you may find that you might need to adjust your mixer clearance for the attachments to work properly. This can happen if your machine has been knocked or you have a secondary mixing bowl of a different size.
Firstly, choose your bowl. For most of us, it will be the standard stainless steel bowl that came with your mixer but you might also decide to use the ice cream maker, or heat precision bowl. Either way, the process for attaching these is still the same. How you secure the bowl to the mixer depends on if you are using a tilt head or bowl lift mixer.
For tilt-head stand mixers:
For bowl-lift stand mixers:
Optional attachments transform the KitchenAid stand mixer into the perfect tool for additional cooking activities other than just mixing and whipping.
To attach most of these accessories, you need to use the universal attachment hub. Although every KitchenAid has a multi-purpose hub, before you buy any extra accessories, make sure your specific attachment works with your stand mixer.
Some models like the bowl-lift 6.9L Professional or the tilt-head 3.3L don’t support every extra attachment. If your attachment goes into the power hub, then rest assured it will work with your stand mixer.

Your mixer has finished its whipping, churning and grinding tasks. It’s time to clean the bowl and accessories. And to do precisely that, you need to know how to remove each attachment.
Just as we did when we attached them, ensure to unplug the mixer and ensure the speed control is turned to OFF/00 before you remove any attachments.

You have plugged the special attachment into the multipurpose power hub. The ingredients have been mixed, ground or milled.
To remove an attachment from the multipurpose/power hub:
Your oven is ready to receive the delicious goodies you have just baked but your mixing bowl remains stuck, too.
One of the most common reasons for mixing attachments getting stuck is residue food particles inside the cavity of the flat beater or wire whisk. One way to prevent this from happening in the future is to remove the attachment immediately after mixing. Then clean the attachment by placing it point down.
If this doesn’t work, I have a couple of solutions for you.
Remember to clean off the oil after you remove the attachment.
