Does your kitchen knife turn ugly often? Rust can appear on any kitchen knife if they are not taken care properly. In fact, several customers have already reached out to us to know whether the formation of rust is related to the quality of the product. The answer is no. Rusting is a natural phenomenon that takes place when iron and oxygen react to moisture. It is common on knives that are washed in a dishwasher (which, by the way, we do not recommend!). Always wash the knives by hand and wipe them with a dry cloth right after.

‘Stainless steel‘ is a very misleading term. In fact, every knife rusts (unless they are ceramic blades, but they’re brittle though), it is only that few steel knives are more resistant than others. Therefore, it is important to take care of your knives regularly. If your knife did rust then do not worry. We are here to help you, follow the steps on this page and restore your knife’s charm.
Not at all! You might have heard people saying not to use knives that are rusty. To clear the myth, rust is not a toxic substance. Rust is due to the oxidation of iron and it occurs when the metal is in contact with water for longer periods. Therefore, iron is not dangerous for health, on the contrary, our body needs it!
You can continue to use the rusty knives for cutting all kinds of foods and even drink water from a rusty teapot. It will not impact your health. The only problem of using rusted knives is that all the foods that are cooked will have a metal taste, but it doesn’t affect the health nor does it cause any disease.

Rust will become harmful only when the blade is in contact with soil, but if the knives are kept in a proper storage space, then there won’t be any impact.
This is the simplest tip on the list. To apply this method, all you need is a potato. Cut the potato into half and scrub the knife on either side or simply stick your knife in a potato for few hours. The oxalic acid in the potato will act as an anti-rust on the steel blade. Later, you can rinse the knife and dry it with a soft cloth. This is the most economical and natural way to remove stains on the blade.
Everyone loves white vinegar; this is a household product par excellence and its benefits are multiple. Just pour some warm vinegar in a bowl and soak the knife in the bowl for not more than five minutes. The acetic acid inside this solution will get rid of rust on the knife. Clean the knife using a soft cloth. You can also wrap the knife with a cloth that is soaked in white vinegar.

Also, you can prepare a solution by mixing kosher salt in the vinegar. Once it is prepared, place the knife inside the solution. A chemical reaction will cause gaseous formations on the blade. Once this is visible, take your knife off the solution and gently rub it with a soft sponge. Finally, rinse and dry the knife.
If you have some turpentine at home you can use this solution in exactly the same way as the white vinegar (without heating it), the results will be better!
Here is another tip where you don’t require a lot of products. All you need to do is to take a cork (which you can find it on wine bottles) and put some cleansing milk on it, then gently rub the milk using the cork directly on the blade.
We hope that these tips will help you in removing the rust off your beloved knives. So do not worry too much about the rusting of your knives over time. This is a common phenomenon that doesn’t affect the quality of the blades and using these tips you can bring back its original beauty!
