Home » Season & Festivals » 6 Party starter recipes to get you started

December is clearly the party month of the year. Since hosting a party can be as much pain as it pleasure, we try making it a little easier for you with these scintillating starters that could make your party the most talked about party in town – and for all the good reasons!

Dhaniya Adrak Champe – These are succulent grilled lamb chops in a masala with the flavours of mint coriander and ginger. Prep and marinate the chops a night before your party and all left to do is grill these in a gas oven tandoor or an ordinary oven for 20 minutes before or even during your party! Baste them with some luscious butter and serve with mint chutney. PS – make a large batch because everyone is going to come back for a second helping.

Babycorn Satay – A satay is an Indonesian dish which is basically veggies or meat grilled on skewers served with a nutty peanut sauce. Babycorns once blanched will absorb the marinade wonderfully and grill quickly. Arrange these on a platter along with some of the spicy tangy sweet peanut sauce or just toss these in some of the sauce and serve pricked with a bunch of toothpicks. PS – We are giving you a recipe for babycorn satay, but feel free to use a mix of veggies, chicken or even seafood for your satay. Believe it or not we even have a recipe for satayed idlis, and they taste yum!

Vegetable Papad Rolls – A healthy mix of sautéed vegetables enclosed in a papad and fried. So you get a crunch from papad followed by the delicious bite of veggies. A much healthier alternative to frying the papads is to bake them. PS – This is more of straight from the pan to your plate kind of a dish, so serve them up soon to avoid the papad from going soggy.

Pepper Slices with Cream Cheese – This is one of the easiest party recipes to put together. All you need is slices of some colourful bell peppers to fill with a delicious cream cheese mixture with sweetness from pineapples and crunch of almonds. All in all when you take a bite of this you experience a mini party of flavours in your mouth. PS – Slightly roast the slices of pepper for that extra oomph factor in taste and presentation!

Aloo Nazakat – Baby Potatoes are finger foods ideal for parties and when you use them in this recipe for an Aloo nazakat, they really become a star at any gathering. Fried baby potatoes filled with a sautéed paneer mixture basted in a marinade and baked – tastes just as delicious as it sounds. Plus this is a restaurant recipe from The Yellow Chilli so it is bang on! PS – Prep up these bite-sized potato delights beforehand and bake in batches just as your guests begin to arrive.

Jerk Chicken Tacos – Buy a bunch of ready-made taco shells and follow this recipe for a delicious grilled jerk chicken filling and tomato salsa. All you need to do is arrange these on a table along with some sour cream, lettuce, olives jalapenos or any condiments of your choice and ask your guests to put together their taco. That way you can enjoy your party as much as the others are. PS – You can please your vegetarian friends by doing a paneer or stir fried veggies filling for their taco, everything else stays common! One arrow two birds!

With these party starters you are sure to have a party where the food will definitely be hard to forget!
