We’ve all got them in our households, I know!
In this post, I’m sharing my top 3 DIY linen sprays, which smell amazing and are full of natural, non-toxic ingredients.
They’re safe to use on many types of fabrics and shouldn’t stain or leave marks (but always do a patch test first before use.)
If used properly, they can be used safely around children and pets.
You’ll probably have reservations about using just any old type of linen spray on your home linen. Am I right?
I know I did when I first used one.
Now the things to consider when using a linen spray are:
To put your mind at rest, the recipes I’ve included below for non-toxic linen spray check all those boxes.
Plus, they’re super easy to make and last several months (meaning lots of spritzes and longevity) if kept in a suitable bottle out of direct sunlight.
What I love most about a DIY linen spray is how they make me and my family feel – namely, because of the natural essential oils.
These linen sprays are used at least a few times a week in my living space to leave a delicious fragrance and help calm down the chaos – no joke!
My favorite is the lavender and chamomile as a comforter spray before bedtime – it’s great for kids.
The incredible benefits of essential oils are well documented too.
When using essential oils, you’re effectively bringing nature into your home. The chemical compounds they contain are infused into the air you breathe, which has a beneficial effect on your body systems.
This has a direct impact on your mood, stimulating your senses, bringing a smile to your face, and brightening your day.

You could also use these DIY linen spray recipes in a diffuser – remember to use just the essential oil blends and leave out the witch hazel.
A linen spray actually does several jobs in one.
It’s mainly used to fragrance linen and fabrics, making them and your living space smell gorgeous.
The scent lasts ages too, which I love.
However, some linen sprays contain alcohol as a base product which can double up as a mild sterilizing agent.
Basically, on surfaces that simply can’t be washed (couches being one), a linen spray is a fantastic alternative to freshen it up and make it smell clean and fresh.
Or where not to use it – that’s a better question!
Because honestly, you can use linen spray on pretty much everything.
I’m talking clothes, closets, the couch, carpets, curtains, mattresses, duvet covers, and wedding dresses. The list goes on!
It’s best to use linen spray sparingly, however. You never want to soak the linen, so it becomes wet. That’s a big no-no.
Instead, you want to give it a light misting – just enough to scent the linen.
The smell can be quite powerful, so start small and spritz a few more times if you want to.
But remember – don’t over spritz, else you’ll possibly end up damaging the linen.
This entirely depends on what linen spray you’re using.
The recipes I’ve included here contain witch hazel and essential oils, which are all-natural and toxin-free.
So they’re very safe for you health-wise.
Just make sure you try them first on an area of fabric that is small and won’t be seen (a patch test).
Say the back of the couch, just to be triple sure it won’t leave any marks or discoloration.

I’ve included three different blends for a DIY linen spray below. They’re so simple and enjoyable to make – the difficulty is choosing which one to try first!
Fresh Linen
Lavender & Chamomile
Island Breeze
Choose whichever blend from above that calls to you the most and add the essential oils to a 4 oz spray bottle (dark-colored glass bottles are best for increased longevity of the essential oils.)
Then fill to the top with unscented witch hazel. Screw the spray cap and lid tightly, shake well and use as desired.

The scent of a linen spray can last up to 3 days if sprayed on fabrics like couches and armchairs. Somehow these materials hold the scent longer!
And the wider surface area you spritz, the longer the pleasant aroma will last.
And while I love using room sprays to scent my home, I have used the lavender linen spray from time to time because I absolutely love that one!
Then, of course, when the fragrance runs out, you can quickly spritz it again.
These DIY linen sprays should, in theory, last a good 4-6 months if stored correctly in a cool, dry place with the lid securely fastened.
This is my favorite question!
Not only are these DIY linen sprays better for your health and wellbeing from a zero toxins point of view, but the essential oils can also hold cleansing and purifying properties.
So on fabrics that get a lot of use but can’t be washed in the usual way (things like couches and mattresses), a natural linen spray is a perfect alternative to help keep them free from nasty bugs and critters.
