How to Make Honey Soap 10 Different Ways

Here’s how to make honey soap in ten different ways. Get all the honey soap benefits with each unique honey soap recipe.

Honey is one of those things that fascinates me. Its beautiful golden color and rich, sweet taste start with tiny bees drinking nectar. Did you know the average honey bee only makes one-twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime? Yet, it takes honey bees gathering nectar from two million flowers to make one pound of honey, according to the Honey Association.

Greece, Rome, and Egypt’s ancient cultures used honey in their skincare preparations. Cleopatra’s most prized beauty secret was a combination of milk and honey, known as the elixir of life.

All that said, I guess I’m not the only one fascinated by honey! It’s been a favorite ingredient in skincare and haircare products for a very long time. I use it in a number of ways, such as my hot oil hair treatment, scalp detox scrub, cinnamon and honey lip balm, and sugar cookie lip scrub.

But learning how to make honey soap had me hooked from the start! Find out how to soak up honey soap benefits with ten unique honey soap recipes below.

What is honey soap good for?

Honey soap is good for many things, the first being its humectant properties that attract and bind moisture to the skin and therefore boost the moisturizing power of soap.

Second, honey’s high amount of antioxidants, vitamins, and enzymes help decrease free radical damage to keep skin younger-looking and more radiant.

And third, many find the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties help kill bacteria that may cause acne.

Now you know that there’s a reason honey soap makes our skin feel so soft and smooth.

How is honey soap made? And can I add real honey to melt and pour soap?

These are questions I’ve been asked many times. You can absolutely add honey to soap! Not only will you pack in many of the honey soap benefits for the skin mentioned above, but you’ll also discover that honey increases the lather of the soap.

Here are two ways you can add honey to soap:

1st: The first way is to add honey directly to a melt and pour soap. I feel the Soap Queen answers it best with her honey test of melt and pour soap recipes. Basically, you can add up to ½ teaspoon of real honey per pound of soap.

Adding more than that to your soap may cause it to become overly soft or sweat, known as glycerin dew.

And it’s good to note; adding honey to soap will give it a little color. White soap will appear light tan or ivory. And clear soap will have a golden hue.

2nd: The second way to make honey soap is to start with a honey soap base. What is honey soap base? It’s a block of soap base with honey added to it that’s already gone through the saponification process. You’ll find it has a beautiful golden glow and a slightly sweet aroma from the honey itself. Read my guide on melt and pour soap base types if you’re new to soap bases.

You’ll find examples of each method in ten different honey soap recipes below!
