Supplies Needed:BalloonGoals
Mark out two goal lines for this traditional game. It can be played with any number of players. Line up two teams opposite each other on their own goal line and place a balloon in the middle. The object of the game is for the teams to move the balloon across the other team’s goal line using tennis balls. The balloon can only be propelled by a thrown or rolled ball. It’s a great outdoor activity for teens.
An easy game to set up and play with your group.
Supplies Needed:BalloonVolleyball Net
How To Play:1. Split the group into 2 teams.
2. Play a fun game of volleyball but using a balloon.
Capture the Flag in an open field is a fun outdoor game. Capture the flag is a fun activity and is another great way to help kids use teamwork to solve problems.
How To Play: Capture the flag is a classic outdoor game game for kids of all ages. Each team has a “flag” (though it can be any item) that they hide on their side of the “field.”
While capture the flag doesn’t require anything beyond a field, playing in a large park or even a safe forest area is a great way to increase the challenge and fun levels.

The flag has to be visible without digging or climbing, but beyond that, it can go anywhere. Each opposing team is tasked with grabbing the other team’s flag and bringing it back to their side.
There are a few variations in the game. Some people like to require that the team gets the flag to a “base” on their side, while others only require that the flag makes it to the side in general.
You could include things like water guns or water balloons to fight off the other opponents! And you can add a time limit depending on how long you’ve got. If it’s hot and you’re on the lookout for more games – we have lots of fun water games for kids here.
This is a great outdoor game and can be an all-day event if you have a big enough playing field to play in! People can be guards or the offence so it makes a great game for people who like different kinds of sports – it’s lots of fun for all! For more outdoor garden games – check out this post here!
Another great team game, relay races are great for encouraging teamwork!
How To Play: You can make this as simple or as tricky as you like for different people’s skill levels. You can set up an obstacle course that everyone runs through or pout together a variety of activities together so teams can work together to determine who would be best for each task. For example, you could have one relay running, one skipping, one spinning etc!!
Similar to relay races, obstacle courses can make a fun addition and be played with either small teams or large teams and it’s easy to make an obstacle course with whatever you have in the garden. It’s easy to make an obstacle course extra fun in a wood too for example by stacking logs to jump over, running around trees etc….
You can create an obstacle course for a large group like the Olympic Games or create a really simple obstacle course. Perfect things for an obstacle course include a climbing net, hula hoop, several chairs that you can run over or under. A rope is good for marking the end or the start of the obstacle course.
You can play this game inside or outside with larger groups using whatever materials you have! The object of the game ‘Floor is Lava’ is for the teams to get from one side to the other, without their feet touching the ground/ lava. They need to use the supplies provided and work as a team to figure out the best way to cross. Using whatever supplies you have, the team members have to work out how to get from Side A to Side B. You can use any supplies you have to hand, but some examples are: Cardboard, Hula Hoops, Planks of woods, old towels, packaging, rope, bean bags.
Try these indoor games for teenagers too!
The egg challenge is one of the best team building ideas for teens and good for younger kids too. Anything can be used for the egg challenge – use whatever’s on hand. Our recommended supplies are:
Things you need:
Ladder (or a high window to throw the eggs out of)EggsStrawsLolly sticksBoxesPlastic Pillow Packing BagsTapeScissorsBalloons

The challenge for an egg drop is for the egg to survive a drop from a high spot such as the top of a ladder or out of a window. Teams have to protect the egg by building a parachute or wrapping up the eggs to see which team has the best protected egg! Winners are the one’s whose eggs survive and don’t crack!
How to Play: This is the perfect game for night. The game is played in the dark between two teams with kids of all ages and you’ll need several camping lanterns or very bright lights. Two lanterns are placed about 100 metres apart. These are the home bases. Another two lanterns are placed about 40 metres apart, and at right angles to the first two lanterns. They should be about halfway between the first two lanterns. Depending on how many people you have and the size of your space, you can decide to have more lanterns.
One team is split into two, one half going to each home base lantern. You may need to identify the ‘markers’ (for example with a coloured tie or sash) so people know when they’ve been caught. Only the ‘markers’ can catch people out. The aim of the game is to get to the other teams Homebase lantern, without being caught. They must go between the other two lamps to get there. There is no restriction on how far out they go to either side to get to the other home lamp, but they must go between the two 40 metres apart lamps. For each member who reaches the other teams home base, their team wins a point.
Sardines is a great game and requires no extra supplies – just people. It works well inside or outside – you’ll just need to make sure you define an area to play in if you’re in a very large outside space. The game works best with places to hide as opposed to one large field.
How to play: With a group of players, choose two people to hide as the rest of the group counts to 50 or 100 depending on your space size. It starts like hide and seek, with all other people seeking as opposed to just one. However, when someone comes across the original hiders, they join with them in hiding. Everyone else keeps looking, and when each of them finds the group, they join right along in hiding together, until everyone has found the hiding spot and there is only one seeker left – he has to find the group!
The first person to find the original hiding pair gets to hide next time.
Sardines is a game that’s a lot of fun to play at night as well as during the day, it’s very amusing to come across a wardrobe or a tree with 50 other people also hiding!
What you’ll need:One small torch – ideally if it is able to hang around someone’s neck or clipped to their clothing.
How to play: One person is selected to be the glow worm and takes the torch to hide outside in the dark. Everyone else counts to 50. For the first 20 seconds, the glow worm can leave their torch off but then they must turn their torch on everyone needs to try and find them.
The glow worm can be constantly moving around hide if they like. If the space is small, the glow worm can turn their torch on and off once every 60 seconds to avoid them being caught too quickly. When the glow worm is caught, they switch torches and the new glow worm needs to hide. Glow worm is one of the best games to play outside with teens.
What you will need – some plastic bottles – ideally 12 (with labels removed) and a tennis ball and some glow sticks. Snap the glow sticks and place them inside the plastic bottles.
Stand the glowing bottles at one end of the field and then use the tennis ball to knock them down. You get a strike (10 points) for knocking down all of the skittles and a spare (5 points) for knocking half of the skittles down.
Playing board games outdoors is also an option if there isn’t enough room indoors. Going for a hike, doing a scavenger hunt or playing Capture the Flag in an open field can be fun and exciting for teens. There’s always something to do outdoors for teens, and it’s always more enjoyable with friends.
