Young Living Purification Oil Copycat Recipe

Published by

If you’re looking for a Young Living Purification recipe, you’re in the right place! Young Living’s popular Purification® essential oil blend has a variety of uses. It neutralizes unpleasant odors in the air. Its clean and crisp, lemon-y aroma makes it a family favorite.

It is no secret that Young Living essential oils are about the most expensive oils you can buy. It’s no surprise that people are looking for alternatives, or DIY recipes to make their own variations of popular YL blends.

In this article, I will explore and explain the ingredients of the original Purification® blend. Then, I will show you a recipe that I’ve used to copycat the Young Living Purification blend. And last but not least, I will give you easy alternative blends to buy from less expensive essential oil companies. These alternative blends will all have very similar oil ingredients to the original from Young Living.

Let’s dive in!

The Young Living Purification Blend

Purification essential oil blend from Young Living is an oil for everything stinky and buggy. Its refreshing aroma is so soothing it has the ability to be used in a wide variety of applications.

The recipe is a useful blend for deodorizing your home, refreshing musky areas, and purifying the air you breathe.

On the official website for Young Living essential oils, you are able to find the ingredient list for their proprietary Purification® blend:

  • Cymbopogon nardus (Citronella) oil
  • Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) leaf oil
  • Cymbopogon flexuosus (Lemongrass) oil
  • Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea tree) leaf oil
  • Lavandula hybrida (Lavandin) oil
  • Myrtus communis (Myrtle) oil

All essential oils in this blend are 100% pure, YLTG™ (Young Living Therapeutic Grade) essential oils.

The price for a bottle of original Purification® is $25.99 USD for 5 ml, and $44.75 for 15 ml.

The blend ingredients don’t state how much to use of each oil. I’m sure you can imagine that this information is highly proprietary and protected. However, using my own sense of smell and aromatherapy experience, I have re-created a copycat Purification blend as follows:

YL Purification Copycat Recipe

A DIY version of Young Living’s Purification blend is easier to make than you might think. The tricky thing is adjusting the sizes correctly and getting the smell ‘right’ when it was diffused.

I have done all the testing, math, and recipe creation for you!

Please make sure to blend this recipe in sequence. That is, start with the first oil listed, add the next, etc. Work from top down.

This recipe makes a small 5 ml bottle of DIY Purification Blend. Start with an empty 5 ml amber glass bottle. You can clean and recycle a previously used one, or get some new ones off Amazon for around $1 a piece here. You’ll need around 100 drops of essential oils to fill your 5 ml bottle.

  • Empty 5 ml Amber Glass Bottle
  • 15 drops Citronella essential oil
  • 20 drops Rosemary essential oil
  • 35 drops Lemongrass essential oil
  • 8 drops Tea Tree essential oil
  • 15 drops Lavandin essential oil
  • 7 drops Myrtle essential oil

Why Use The Purification Blend?

Essential oil blends such as the Purification essential oil blend can often be used as a good option to improve indoor air quality.

Modern houses are more densely sealed than houses were in the past. This leads to more toxins circulating inside our homes today. While airtight homes of the modern society are fantastic energy savers, they also need to address the issue of indoor air quality.

I use a Purification type blend for our bathroom spray, to eliminate pet odors, or deodorize smelly shoes. With ingredients such as Citronella and Lemongrass oils, the scent is fresh and invigorating. It’s perfect to use in DIY cleaning recipes as well.

Alternative Blends

Purification is one of the most popular Young Living essential oil blends. It comes as no surprise that other essential oil companies carry a similar or alternative blend of their own.

Having analyzed the oil ingredients in Purifications, here are two alternate brands that carry a “Purify” blend with the exact same ingredients as the original.

REVIVE Purify

This Purify blend is REVIVE essential oils‘ version of the Young Living Purification® oil. It is a proprietary blend of Rosemary, Citronella, Lemongrass, Lavandin, Tea Tree, Myrtle essential oils. These are the exact same oil ingredients as in YL’s original blend.

A bottle of REVIVE Purify sells for just $14 USD on their website.

Rocky Mountain Oils Purify

Purify contains pure Lemongrass, Tea Tree, Rosemary, Lavender, Myrtle, and Citronella essential oils. Again, these are the exact same oil ingredients as in Young Living’s original recipe.

I have been using Rocky Mountain Oils’ Purify blend for a deodorizing bathroom spray.

You can get 15 ml of Purify blend at RMO for $19.95.

Purification Blend Cost Comparison

When discussing Young Living oils, the price is always a talking point. Thus, I have created this easy price comparison chart for you to see how much you stand to save by buying from another company, or making your own blend using Plant Therapy essential oils, and the proper variety of Myrtle (Myrtus communis) from Edens Garden.

To keep the math easy, I have taken prices for 10 ml bottles. A 10ml bottle of essential oil contains approximately 200-250 drops. Again, for easiest math I assumed the bottle yields just 200 drops. You can save even more if you buy larger bottles of oil, such as the 30 ml size.

Here is the math:

  • Citronella essential oil, 10 ml for $7.95. Out of this bottle, 15 drops is $0.59.
  • Rosemary essential oil, 10 ml for $6.95. Out of this bottle, 20 drops is $0.69.
  • Lemongrass essential oil, 10 ml for $7.95. Out of this bottle, 35 drops is $1.39.
  • Tea Tree essential oil, 10 ml for $7.95. Out of this bottle, 8 drops is $0.31.
  • Lavandin essential oil, 10 ml for $8.95. Out of this bottle, 15 drops is $0.67.
  • Myrtle essential oil, 10 ml for $13.95. Out of this bottle, 7 drops is $0.48.

Total cost for the DIY blend in a 5 ml recipe is: $4.13.

Final Thoughts

Many people keep plants indoors to clean their surroundings naturally. Why not use plant-based oils? It only takes a simple aromatherapy diffuser and a few drops of essential oils to remove unpleasant smells and increase the quality of air you breathe. Use your choice of Purification blend for a pleasant, fresh smell in the house. Enjoy the therapeutic benefits of inhaling diffused essential oils and DIY your way to an odor free house you’ll love to spend time in!
