Crafting

Like cooking, crafting can only be done by a campfire. It can either be your own, the one found in the Van der Linde Gang camp or any other found on the field.

With crafting, you can create a variety of different items, including tonics, special ammo types, weapons, hunting items, and horse care items. Many of the items available for crafting can also be purchased in stores, but crafting them will allow you to save some money, which is extremely important at the beginning of the game when funds are almost always lacking.

Unlike cooking recipes, crafting recipes are not all available as soon as you have the required ingredients. Several of them need to be learned first by reading pamphlets, which are obtained in a variety of ways in the story mode and by ranking up and purchasing them in Red Dead Online.

Tonics

Tonics are among the most important items in both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online, as they allow players to heal Health, Stamina and Dead Eye bars instantly. Improved tonics obtained through crafting also bring some better fortify bonuses, which are immensely helpful in the most difficult missions.

Potent Bitters

Potent Health Cure

• Ginseng x1, Yarrow x1
• Fully restores Health, fortifies moderately
• Available from the beginning of the game

• Sold by any fence after Chapter 2

Special Health Cure

Special Miracle Tonic

• Currant x6, Yarrow x6, Burdock Root x4
• Fully restores Health, Stamina, and Dead Eye, fortifies greatly
• Sold by any Fence after completing the A Short Walk in a Pretty Town mission

Special Snake Oil

• Indian Tobacco x2, Currant x2 orPrairie Poppy x

Ammo

All weapons in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online, including the bow, can be armed with different types of ammo which increase one of the weapon stats. Different types of arrows also allow players to inflict “altered status ailments” to enemies, such as setting them on fire and poisoning them.

Dynamite Arrow

• Arrow x1, Dynamite x1, Flight Feather x1
• Explodes on impact, can ruin pelts
• Sold by any Fence after completing the A Short Walk in a Pretty Town mission. The pamphlet can also be found in a chest found by a wooden bridge in the southern part of the Wapiti Indian Reservation

Fire Arrow

• Arrow x1, Animal Fat x1, Flight Feather x1
• Sets fire to target and surroundings
• Received automatically at the beginning of Chapter 2

Improved Arrow

• Arrow x1, Flight Feather x1
• Increases damage, speed, and penetration
• Received automatically at the beginning of Chapter 2

Poison Arrow

• Arrow x1, Oleander Sage x1, Flight Feather x1
• Deals damage over time to target
• Sold by any Fence after Chapter 2. The pamphlet can also be found in a chest outside the Mysterious Hill Home to the northeast of Bacchus Station.

Small Game Arrow

• Arrow x1, Flight Feather x1, Shotgun Shell x1
• Used for killing small animals without damaging the pelt
• Received automatically at the beginning of Chapter 2

Revolver Cartridge Explosive

• 1x Revolver Cartridge – Express, 1x Animal Fat
• Explodes on impact with target, increasing damage
• Received automatically at the beginning of Chapter 2

Shotgun Slugs – Explosive

• 1x Shotgun Shell, 1x Animal Fat
• Sold by any Fence after completing the A Short Walk in a Pretty Town mission. The pamphlet can also be obtained near a burned down house between Gaptooth Ridge and Cholla Springs. As the southern part of the map cannot be reached safely before the end of Chapter 6, this pamphlet can only be obtained during the Epilogue.

Pistol Cartridges – Explosive

• Received automatically at the beginning of Chapter 2

Rifle Cartridge – Explosive

Improved Throwing Knife

• Throwing Knife x1, Eagle Feather x2 or Hawk Feather x2
• Increased damage and accuracy
• Obtained automatically at the beginning of Chapter 2

Poison Throwing Knife

• Throwing Knife x1 Oleander Sage x1
• Deals damage over time
• Sold by any Fence after completing the Pouring Forth Oil mission. The pamphlet can also be found hidden beneath a floorboard in a shack located to the northeast of Saint Denis

Improved Tomahawk

• Tomahawk x1, Eagle Feather x1 or Hawk Feather x1
• Increased damage and accuracy
• Obtained automatically at the beginning of Chapter 2

Homing Tomahawk

• Tomahawk x1, Owl Feather x1
• Increased damage, path correction when thrown
• Sold by any Fence after Chapter 2. The pamphlet can also be collected from a chest located inside the Flattened Cabin to the south of Moonstone Pond

Volatile Dynamite
