This no scrub, homemade shower cleaner recipe with Dawn and vinegar is a snap to make. It’s also super effective at ridding your shower of hard water stains and soap scum with almost no effort on your part! Scented with natural essential oils, this heavy duty bathroom cleaner, also tackles germ causing bacteria and leaves behind nothing but a clean, fresh shower! Try it on hard water stains in your sink or toilet too!
Recently I stumbled across a great blog post on Picklee that highlighted 10 Remarkable DIY Cleaning Solutions. Shortly after pinning these great tips to my DIY Lifestyle Tips Board on Pinterest, my friend Cari of Koti Beth Designs commented on how amazing the super homemade shower cleaner recipe is.
The homemade shower cleaner recipe calls for equal parts of vinegar and Dawn mixed together in a spray bottle. Cari followed the recipe exactly, other than heating the vinegar, sprayed it on, walked away, and then simply rinsed her shower upon returning. The result? A very clean shower.
I decided to improvise a little on this homemade shower cleaner recipe. Instead, I filled my empty bottle of Method Bathroom Cleaner 2/3 full with white vinegar, 1/3 full with regular Dawn.
I then added some essential oils for fragrance and their antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. I used equal parts of lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus essential oils and a smaller amount of tea tree oil.

It does smell a little medicinal. However, if you want a less medicinal scent try a combo of just lavender and peppermint or eucalyptus and peppermint. You can still use a dash of tea tree oil though it does tend to have a very powerful odor.
I like the tea tree oil though since it has antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. You can adjust the essential oils based on the size of the container you decide to use. Or, for extra gross grimey surface, change the ratio of the Dawn and white vinegar to 50% each.

To use this Dawn and vinegar shower cleaner, spray the homemade no scrub cleaner onto the shower walls and tub, as well as any other surfaces you want to clean. Cover the area fully, then allow the homemade shower cleaner to set for 30 minutes.
Finally, wipe off with a damp sponge then rinse clean.
