First, you need to figure out what type of light covers your fluorescent bulbs have. Fluorescent light covers are called lenses or diffusers and there are three versions seen of it. Usually, they contain simple mechanisms to hold in place. All you need is a standard frame ladder to reach the light covers.

Removing Fluorescent Light Covers from the Bulbs

Here’s the thing, there are three versions of fluorescent light covers found. Usually, they are very lightweight and easy to replace. The three versions are; Drop Ceiling, Wraparound, and finally, flat acrylic covers.

As all of these have simple mechanisms, you can easily remove them from the place.

Let’s see how you can do it!

Removing Drop Ceiling Light Covers

Drop ceiling fluorescent bulbs are generally used in commercial settings including offices, malls, and institutions. At times the bulbs explode and are in need of change.

The bulbs are placed inside the ceiling. As a result, they can be covered with other ceiling panels. The intention is to flush the panels with lights.

These frames or panels consist of two layers before unlocking the light covers. They are laid flat and locked in place.

To remove them:

Step 1: Pull the panels up and out at a 90-degree angle. After successfully unlocking both layers, the frame will slightly open.

Step 2: Pull the frame horizontally away from the hinge side. You must do it in order to swing the light all the way.

Step 3: Now the light cover is in the correct position to fully swing down. Swing it down. And your fluorescent light covers will be removed.

Removing Wraparound Fluorescent Light Covers

Wraparound fluorescent lights are mostly hung down from the ceiling. They don’t have any decorative cover on them.

So, you will not likely find them in fancy exteriors or with insulated ceilings.

The lens of the cover is of U shape. They usually cover the sides and bottom of the light. The sides of the lens sit on a ledge with a small lip. The lip can be pushed out of the place easily.

To remove a wraparound light cover:

Step 1: Grab on to the one long side and push it upwards.

Step 2: After completing the first step, pull the long side down.

Step 3: Now you have to do the same with the other side as well.

And your wraparound fluorescent covers will be removed.

Removing an Acrylic Flat Fluorescent Light Cover

Flat acrylic lights covers are flexible and lightweight which makes them easier to remove.

Flat acrylic lights usually have a decorative cover to hold them in place. Due to their decorativeness, they are mostly used in the kitchen.

In order to remove acrylic flat fluorescent light covers:

Step 1: Push one end in order to create a sufficient gap at the other to maneuver it out of the frame.

As they are very flexible, you might bend them while inserting or removing them if you are not careful.

Step 2: If the panel gets stuck, gently tap around the cover perimeter with a soft mallet. It will loosen up and then try again.

Follow these procedures accordingly. You will get your way around any sort of fluorescent light cover:
