Essential Oils for the Root Chakra

The Root Chakra is the first of the seven chakras and it is located at the base of the spine at the tailbone. This chakra is also referred to as Muladhara, a Sanskrit word that means ‘root’ or support’. The Root Chakra is the center of our feelings of security and survival, the core which the rest of the chakras build upon. It is deeply tied to the earth, controlling the instincts that allow us to feel safe and at home in our environment. The Root Chakra grounds us so that we feel content and at peace.

When the Root Chakra is balanced, we feel steady and sure in life, helping us to trust our instincts in any situation. This surety allows us to feel comfortable indulging in the pleasures of life while feeling safe and secure. A balanced Root Chakra connects us to mother earth and we can be more mindful of our treatment of the environment and our place in this world. This balance helps us to live in the moment and appreciate our current situation without fear or anxiety about the future.

A blocked Root Chakra can leave us feeling disconnected from our life and home. This imbalance can throw us off of our path in life and prevent us from being able to move forward. We may feel stuck and unsure of ourselves, causing isolation from the people in our community and a disregard for our home and planet. The Root Chakra is the base of all chakras and none of them can be fully balanced and open when there is a blockage in the root.

Essential oils are great tools for supporting our physical, mental, and spiritual health and can help to improve the balance of all of our chakras. Here are a few essential oils that can help to unblock the Root Chakra.

Vetiver Essential Oil may help to bring us back down to earth when a blocked Root Chakra has us feeling disconnected from the world. It has been found to ground and balance the emotions while soothing feelings of anxiety and encouraging a sense of belonging.

Frankincense Essential Oil can help to ground and calm our emotions when a blocked Root Chakra clouds our trust in ourselves and our place in life. It is believed to combat stress and anxiety while strengthening intuition and focusing intention, making it useful in yoga and meditation practices.

Myrrh Essential Oil can help to restore our sense of security when an imbalance in our Root Chakra makes us feel out of place. It is believed to promote feelings of wellness and peace while stimulating the brain and increasing our emotional awareness.

Cedarwood Essential Oil may work to restore confidence and remind us that we are not alone when a blockage in our Root Chakra has caused us to isolate ourselves. It has been found to improve brain activity which can reduce stress and restore emotional balance.

Black Pepper Essential Oil may help to soothe the nerves and bring us back into focus when our Root Chakra is blocked and we are not feeling sure of ourselves. It is known to soothe feelings of anxiety while giving a boost to our thought processing and mental energy.
