Stylish and modern ideas for decorating above your kitchen cabinet!
What should you do with that big space above your kitchen cabinets? It’s the definition of an awkward space. It’s not super functional, but it’s also very visible and takes up some prime real estate in your kitchen. If you leave it empty it can look too bare, but it can also look cluttered if you put too much up there. It’s true conundrum! Decorating above kitchen cabinets can be challenging to say the least.

Every kitchen is different, and you will want to consider not only what looks good, but also what is practical for your daily life. For small kitchens, finding ways to style above your kitchen cabinets with some kind of storage is going to help you maximize the space. For larger kitchens you may want to consider more ornamental ideas.
The first step is to determine whether you need to add additional storage. If you don’t, you can simply use the space for decorative purposes. If you do need extra storage, think about whether you use the items often and if you mind having to reach up to get them. Consider adding shelves, baskets, or drawers to make sure you have enough room for all of your essentials.
Here are some practical ideas for how to decorate above kitchen cabinets!
Plant ladies, this one is for you! Choose a few low maintenance plants (because you don’t want to have to climb up to water them every day!) and put them on top of the cabinets. Plants that trail look beautiful by windows and sinks. If your thumb is not so green, you could opt for plants that are easier to care for like succulents or find some realistic looking fake plants.

Depending on the kitchen you have, you could style the space above your kitchen cabinets with your fine china, serving bowls, trays, pitchers and things you don’t use as often. We love this idea because it gives you more storage too! If you have super tall cabinets, this may not work, but it could work for smaller kitchens if you had a stool available when you need to get down the items.
