Video ultra healing foot balm recipe

I recently broke my ankle. I don’t know why but it left me with a huge dry skin problem, especially on my opposite foot.

It was gross. Even my kids noticed and were commenting on it as skin flaked away.

It made my next DIY beauty project really obvious though – I NEEDED to make an absolutely awesome BEST foot balm for cracked heels.

So I did what I always do when I want a new recipe. I read a lot about what ingredients I should want in an organic foot balm which would help get rid of this icky problem before it got worse.

I thought about it based on my experience making other products and then I started experimenting until I came up with something perfectly soothing and moisturising while helping my poor skin. I created an ultra healing foot balm recipe.

The best part was that when my cast came off my broken ankle, the dry skin situation was HORRIBLE there and I already had this foot balm which helped fix it up ASAP. It’s a miracle worker!

Below, I share this homemade heel balm recipe. It’s full of goodness! I also walk you through why I recommend you consider making your own DIY heel balm and why each ingredient is an awesome addition. I talk about how to use your new foot balm cracked heels edition!

In addition to the full recipe, you’ll also find a video below of exactly what to do.

So keep reading and start making!

Why Make DIY Foot Balm?

There are many reasons to make a homemade foot balm recipe especially if you want to stop putting possibly harmful chemicals on your body. Here are many reasons which may resonate with you too.

It’s Easy To Make

While I love making my own products, I know I won’t do it for long if they are time consuming or overly complicated. This isn’t the case with this foot balm DIY at all.

You’re simply melting some ingredients together and adding a couple more. Super easy!

It really couldn’t get easier, in fact, so don’t use an excuse like it’s too hard to make a foot heel balm to stop you from trying.

It Makes A Great Gift

This DIY heel balm makes such a great gift. Anyone who likes soft, moisturised feet is going to love it. It also can seem quite fancy even though it is so quick and easy to make.

You could also customise the recipe a little by switching the essential oil to match your audience.

It’s Chemical Free And All Natural Foot Balm

The best way to ensure that all the products you use on your body are natural is to make them yourself, and there’s no exception for foot balm.

Too many products out there are full of unpronounceable chemicals and who knows what they might do to your feet.

When you make it yourself, you have full control over the ingredients you put in and what quality they are.

It Works!

But the best reason to make your own foot balm has to be that it works! I was amazed by how much actually as I have never had dry skin like I had under my cast and it fixed it up in no time.

It also gave me great ongoing feet.

Ingredients For A Cracked Heel Balm Recipe

There aren’t many ingredients in this moisturising foot balm but they all have a big part to play.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is a natural fat which is extracted from nuts that come from the shea tree. This tree is native to West Africa. At room temperature, it’s a solid and is an ivory/pale yellow.

It’s full of antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins and is often included in beauty products thanks to its many properties which make it great for skincare.

It softens, soothes and conditions skin while being easy to spread. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. All of this helps make a great foot balm recipe. Shea butter also helps form a protective layer on your feet.

Being solid at room temperature, shea butter also helps this balm stay solid once made.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is often a favourite among people like me who want to use all natural products because it’s so multi-purposeful. It’s also handy in foot balm.

Coconut oil has moisturising and healing properties. Thanks to its concentration of vitamin E and proteins, it’s good at helping repair damaged skin like cracked heels.

The lauric acid contained in coconut oil has both anti-fungal and antibacterial properties helpful in keeping away any foot infections.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is not just great in the kitchen but also on your feet!

Olive oil will moisturise and help soften your feet and is also good for cracked heels. It’s full of antioxidants, vitamin E and squalene which are great for hydrating skin.

Beeswax

A great addition to this foot balm recipe, beeswax helps make the balm thicker and stay on the skin. It soothes and protects dry skin and cracked heels by holding in any moisture that is already on the skin (or added by the other products in this recipe).

This all helps this foot balm to last longer meaning it helps protect, moisturise and repair your feet for longer.

If you want a vegan foot balm recipe, you can switch candelilla wax with beeswax. I do this when I make it for my mum. I use a little less candelilla wax than I do beeswax since it’s a little harder.

Peppermint Essential Oil

While you can switch the peppermint essential oil in this recipe to another of your choice, it does work great with peppermint oil.

There are many benefits of peppermint essential oil. It increases circulation, is a pain reliever and is good for inflammation.

It also soothes and hydrates dry skin and isn’t greasy. It’s easily absorbed into skin and has a long-lasting effect.

It also has a nice cooling effect, can focus the mind and I, personally, love the smell.

It is a stronger smelling essential oil so if you don’t like strong smells, I recommend decreasing the quantity in this recipe. On this topic, some people tolerate essential oils better than others. I can’t recommend what is best for you and I’m simply sharing what works best for me.

Where To Buy These Ingredients In Australia

While you may already have olive oil in the cupboard and can easily buy it at the supermarket, the other ingredients can be easily purchased online at eBay and Amazon Australia.

In this article, I link to the best place to buy the individual product to make it easy for you. None of the ingredients are hard to get.

How To Make Homemade Foot Balm For Cracked Heels

It really couldn’t be easier to make this great recipe for dried feet.

I recommend you get everything ready before you start to make it extra smooth including having your jar or other container set to go.

On that topic, you can really use any container you want.

I bought a special bail jar for my foot balm which I just love. It’s cheap, reusable and adds a bit of class. I feel extra special every time I see it 🙂

How To Use This Foot And Heel Balm

It’s very easy to apply this foot balm – simply rub some on your fingers then rub it into your feet.

It’s best to do this at night or another time when you put your feet up.

For a longer lasting treatment, put some socks on after applying the balm so it can really soak in and not rub off.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this guide to making your own awesome, all natural heel and foot balm. It’s worth the tiny bit of effort it takes and feels great on dry feet.

I absolutely love it and can’t get enough of it.
