Jean-Philippe Susilovic, best known for his work as the maître d’hôtel for celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s cooking show, “Hell’s Kitchen.” However, when Jean-Philippe left the show, many fans wondered why.
Jean-Philippe Susilovic did not leave “Hell’s Kitchen” for any dramatic reason, but simply because he had responsibilities running Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant, Pétrus. Gordon Ramsay confirmed this on his Twitter account.

Jean-Philippe is doing quite well for himself after leaving the show. However, his run on “Hell’s Kitchen certainly had some memorable moments.
Jean-Philippe is credited for 122 episodes of the popular show “Hell’s Kitchen,” from 2005 to 2014. His unique antics made him many people’s favorite character, though, of course, he could never match Gordon Ramsay’s iconic insults.
Obviously, “Hell’s Kitchen” seems like a high-tension show onscreen, but fans might wonder if Jean-Philippe could take the heat. When asked what one of the challenges of watching chefs’ progress on “Hell’s Kitchen was,” Jean-Philippe had a poignant answer.
In an interview with CarterMatt, he said, “I always feel sorry for the chefs with genuine talent who have a mental meltdown in the middle of the show, not realizing that have what it takes to win. The last weeks are crazy as some chefs are really tired and make some silly mistakes. Sometimes it feels like Formula One races with many crashes.”
However, not everything on television is as it seems – for example, although tensions seem high on the show and often it appears as if a fight would break out, this isn’t the case in reality. The truth is, the show’s producers would never let an actual fight break out, and there are bodyguards on the set; the fighting is simply manufactured to add some extra drama to the show.

That doesn’t mean that there isn’t any drama occurring naturally, though.
“Hell’s Kitchen” contestants say they are genuinely surprised by the events of the show, so those shocked reactions you see onscreen are totally real. For example, contestant Ariel Malone said in an interview with Delish that the producers had told her that they were all going out to eat when they were going to cook instead.
“I had six-inch heels on, and then, surprise!” Thankfully, they gave her better shoes as heels are a safety hazard in the kitchen, but otherwise, she had to cook in full glam.
As a cast member for nine total seasons so far, Jean-Philippe knows the secret to survive “Hell’s Kitchen,” as he shared in an interview with Reality Wanted, saying, “It’s all about tact in life. If guests sense fear and incompetence, they start to get nervous and worry. If you keep and maintain your cool, you create a positive energy.”
At least Jean-Philippe knows how to stay out of the frying pan and the fire. If you feel like reminiscing about one of Jean-Philippe’s funnier moments on the beloved reality tv show, you can watch the clip below:
Although many people only know Jean-Philippe as a fan-favorite on the television show, he has worked with Gordon Ramsay extensively in other ventures.
Jean-Philippe is incredibly accomplished outside of the world of reality television as well.

He’s accomplished an impressive amount in the culinary world, running Gordon Ramsay’s Pétrus restaurant locations in addition to opening his own restaurant.
Jean-Philippe’s restaurant, Bentley’s, is located in Ostend, Belgium, the country where he was born and raised. It is an elegant dining experience consisting of a menu that includes French and Belgian cuisine.
Bentley’s is ranked in the Michelin Guide Belgium 200 list of restaurants, the entry for which claims, “the menu features time-honored classics like vol – au – vent and sea bass in a salt crust, together with a selection of more modern recipes.” Well done, Jean-Philippe!
Although Gordon Ramsay helped Jean-Philippe get his first official start in the restaurant industry, Jean-Philippe had already grown up around food. His parents owned a restaurant for 40 years.
After graduating from culinary school with a wine specialization, Jean-Philippe began working for Gordon Ramsay in London, England. Since then, the two have had a long working relationship.
Although it is currently unknown if Jean-Philippe will return to “Hell’s Kitchen,” he has done so before, returning after his season seven departure to reclaim his role for the show’s eleventh and twelfth seasons.
Even if the fan-favorite maître d’hôtel does not return, Jean-Philippe will indeed be serving up success – and excellent food.
