How to Decorate with Glass Apothecary Jars

Published by

You have probably heard the name before … apothecary jars. Today I am sharing how I love to decorate with glass apothecary jars.

I literally have glass apothecary jars all over my house. In the living room, they are filled with scrabble tiles or balsa wood flowers. I filled them with spools of thread, pink pom poms, or buttons in the craft room. In the bathroom, the glass apothecary jars are filled with Qtips and cotton balls and in the laundry room, they are filled with laundry pods and dryer sheets. Keep reading to learn about these gorgeous jars and how you can use them in your home.

What is an apothecary jar? It is a small, covered jar. Originally they were used by druggists to hold pharmaceuticals. The jars could be found at the pharmacists and often included ingredients that were then mixed together to make remedies. Don’t laugh but I currently decorate with glass apothecary jars in six rooms in our home!

How to Use Apothecary Jars

But I am not the only one. Today you will find apothecary jars in homes that are used for both decor and practical reasons. They are commonly used to hold spices, candies, cosmetics, accessories, holiday decor, and more.

As you can see, I use them a lot to display seasonal decor.

Apothecary Jars in the Laundry Room

Apothecary jars are such a pretty way to store your “stuff”. They take a completely ordinary item, such as laundry soap, and make it look elegant!

I love how nice my laundry soap and dryer sheets look in my laundry room! This is such an improvement over the packaging these items come in.

Apothecary Jars in the Craft Room

I must have at least one hundred items in my craft room that I could put in my apothecary jars. But I know better than that, so I have five jars in my craft room with lots of fun craft rooms.

I love the sea glass and the ribbons in the apothecary jars in the window of my craft room. Don’t look too close as my windows are a bit “rain stained”. Oops. I will be cleaning them this weekend for sure.

Apothecary Jars in the Bathroom

I love storing Q-Tips, cotton balls, and cotton swabs in apothecary jars in my bathroom.

I put some of my bath items on the shelves of my bathroom. Don’t they look great?

I also keep bath salts and Epsom salts on the tray in our bathtub. These are essentials for wonderfully relaxing baths.

I also just put all of my coffee in Apothecary jars. They didn’t fit in the ceramic jars I was using and they look so much prettier here. The decaf coffee is on the left.

I also have my favorite “superfood healthy creamer” in a tiny apothecary jar.
