He has more than 2.8 million subscribers on his ‘Outdoor Boys’ YouTube channel and has more than a million subscribers on his ‘Catfish and Carp’ channel.

Luke J. Nichols was born in 1978 in Anchorage, Alaska, United States.
His father’s name is Melvin R. Nichols and his mother’s name is Sharon Nichols.
Luke grew up in Anchorage and grew up watching his grandfathers, father and elder brother, Dan, fishing.
At a young age, his father took him fishing and thanks to this, he fell in love with fishing.
Luke started fly fishing for trout and salmon and in his junior high school, he earned and saved money to buy his first fly rod.
He also did a lot of ice fishing in Alaska.
Much later, Luke also started taking his kids on trips and introduced them to fishing.
As a boy and a teenager, Luke used to do a lot of hunting in Alaska.
He used to mainly hunt upland game birds especially waterfowl like ducks, grouse, quails, ptarmigans, etc. and sandhill cranes but he stopped hunting after getting married.
Later, Luke moved from Alaska to Utah and lived here for six years.
In the initial years, he didn’t fish in Utah as he felt that fishing wouldn’t be as great in Utah as it was in Alaska.

After many years, Luke realized that Utah too had some great fishing and later, he moved to Virginia and started fishing there too.
As a teenager, he wanted to grow up to become a professional wood carver specializing in native Alaskan totemic art and he used to design totem poles, paddles, etc. and sell them to people.
He did his schooling from Robert Service High School in Anchorage, Alaska.
In 1996, Luke attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah to study for a BS in Political Science and he graduated in 2004.
In 2006, he attended Antonin Scalia Law School – George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia to study for a Juris Doctorate in Criminal Law & Immigration Law.
Luke graduated in 2009.
From November 1997 to November 1999, Luke served as a Missionary at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fukuoka, Japan.
From August 1994 to August 2003, he worked as an Inspector at Alaska Testlab.
From 2003 until 2006, Luke was an owner of the Spectrum Political Services and from October 2009 to December 2013, he was an owner of Spectrum Legal Defense in Fairfax, Virginia.
From October 2011 to April 2020, he was a Partner at Nichols & Green, PLLC in Fairfax, Virginia.
Luke authored many books on law namely, The Virginia Reckless Driving Handbook, The Virginia DUI Handbook, Driving on a Suspended License in Virginia and Virginia Drug Crimes Defense Manual.
He used to also work and write articles for the CarpPro Magazine, a carp fishing magazine.
On 28 November 2013, Luke started his YouTube channel, ‘Catfish and Carp’.
And on the same day, he published the first video, ‘Catfishing bells’.

On 5 May 2015, Luke started his outdoor YouTube channel, ‘Outdoor Boys’.
On 17 May 2015, he published the first video on this YouTube channel, ‘Cutest metal band video ever! Baby plays air guitar like a boss!’.
As of April 2023, Luke has 1.01M subscribers on Catfish and Carp channel and 2.88M subscribers on Outdoor Boys channel.
Even though he has a website, CatsandCarp.com, he stopped working on it in 2015.
As of April 2023, Luke has 88K followers on the ‘Catfish and Carp’ Facebook page and 97K followers on the ‘Outdoor Boys’ Facebook page.
He earns from a variety of sources like advertisements on his YouTube videos, selling merchandise and affiliate marketing.
On his YouTube channels, apart from fishing and various outdoor activities, Luke also does forging and restoration of tools.
While studying at Brigham Young University, Luke met Rebecca Reimann Nichols.
During that time, both of them were in their sophomore year.
They got married in August 2001 and this couple has three sons namely, Tommy, Nate and Jacob.
Much like Luke, all his sons are also interested in outdoor life.
He loves travelling and has travelled to many countries like Japan, Canada, England, Spain, etc. and travelled all around the world for fishing charters.
Luke loves catching bluefish and also enjoys fly fishing for trout and catching carp on the surface.
