Moen’s smart faucets are an excellent alternative to traditional faucets. The company offers various kitchen and bathroom faucets with added technology to make operation easy, even if you have your hands full. However, like any other product, these faucets go on strike from time to time.
The faucet might stop working entirely, it might work sporadically, or the LED light might blink constantly. If the little light near the bottom of your tap is repeatedly blinking, here are a few things you can try.

Moen faucets feature a blue LED light that gives information about your faucet based on the number of blinks or the blinking sequence. There are a few different types of Moen smart faucets, so the sequencing and blinks are slightly different.
If your faucet has a grey control box with lines feeding into the top and bottom, the blue light indicates you’re in electronics mode. The LED light will remain lit for about 2 seconds, which tells you the faucet is in electronic mode.
If the blue light flashes rapidly, the battery life is getting low. Moen states batteries should last around two years under everyday use, but some folks have mentioned issues with battery life in these faucets.
On the other hand, you might have a black control box underneath the sink. There will be supply lines feeding into the bottom of the box, with a larger line on the left side of the box. When the blue LED light comes on (it’ll be on for about 2 seconds), this indicates electronics mode is activated.
The light will flash slowly when the battery life is waning and replacements are necessary soon. Once the batteries are nearly out of juice, the LED light will flash rapidly, indicating battery replacements are required now.

Given the extra tech features of Moen’s smart faucets, there are more areas that can fail or malfunction. Sometimes, these features give out, causing the faucet to quit working as it should or altogether.
Before you call a plumber for assistance, check the cables. Make sure the data cable is securely plugged into the control box. Double-check the power source cable (either to the battery pack or AC adapter), ensuring it’s tight and securely connected to the control box.
If your Moen faucet has a battery pack, check the batteries inside. Although Moen states these batteries should last up to two years before a replacement is necessary, many folks have reported issues with battery life. Sometimes, batteries need to be replaced more regularly, as they lose energy quickly.
So, check the batteries inside the pack. Make sure they have the correct orientation and are snug in the holder. If they’re loosely fitted inside the battery pack, the faucet may operate erratically, with random inconsistencies in power.
If you find yourself changing the batteries every few months, there might be a failure inside the faucet, causing the batteries to drain rapidly. Many times, the culprit is the sensor. So, replacing the sensor with a functional sensor will fix these issues, allowing the batteries to last multiple years. However, changing the sensor requires disassembling the faucet, so if you’re not comfortable handling the process, enlist the help of a professional.
Resetting the sensor on a Moen faucet is a simple process. You can either disable the entire sensor and turn it back on again or reset the entire faucet. Each faucet is slightly different, but the process is relatively similar.
To reset the sensor, disable both and turn them back on again. Disable each sensor by holding your hands in front of both sensors for 10 seconds. Wait until the blue LED light flashes twice on the Ready Sensor (front sensor). Move your hands away, then turn off the water.

Next, re-enable the sensors by repeating this process.
Sometimes, you might need to reset the entire faucet to restore proper function. For example, let’s consider Moen’s MotionSense hands-free faucet. To reset the whole faucet, disconnect the power cable (either the AC adapter or battery pack cable), which is a round black cord, from the control box. Disconnect the data cable from the control box, which is a flat black cord.
Wait sixty seconds with both cords unplugged from the control box. Now, above the sink, make sure there is a 3-foot cleaning in front of the sensor. Move dishes or other obstructions out of the way. Next, plug the data cable in first, ensuring it’s tightly plugged in and secured.
Once the data cable is secured, plug in the power cable. Make sure the cord is tightly connected to the control box. After you plug in both cables, wait at least 60 seconds for the faucet to cycle. In some cases, this can take up to two minutes.
After the faucet finishes cycling, check for proper function.
Some faucets, such as the U by Moen faucet, can be reset to factory settings. It’s important to note that doing this will reset your device and remove any presets you adjusted. Simply insert a paperclip into the reset button on the control box. It should be on the left or right side of the box near the bottom.
Press and hold the button using the paperclip until you hear it beep twice. After it beeps, remove the paper clip and reprovision the device.
