How to smoke a ham
Most of the hams you will buy in the major groceries stores are going to be pre-cooked, pre-smoked hams. They are typically the kind that say you can slice and serve them immediately, and they are also known as “City Hams”.
Since these hams are already fully cooked and smoked, all you really need to do is re-heat the ham in order to serve it. We do it slowly and on a Traeger wood-pellet grill so it can pick up even more rich smokey flavors, and stay tender and juicy until it is time to slice and serve.
The maple champagne glaze makes things just a little sweet and is the perfect sauce to serve alongside the ham once it is heated through and sliced.
Since the hams we’d be using are already smoked once during the cooking process, what we are making here is actually a double-smoked ham.

How long should you smoke a ham?
How long you need to cook smoked ham on a bbq depends first on what type of ham you are cooking. If you are cooking a fresh or country ham, these directions won’t apply.
To double-smoke a city ham, just start your smoker or pellet-grill and place your ham on it. I like to cook mine in a pan with about a cup of cooking liquid inside. I used prosecco, but have also used hard cider and regular apple juice as well, very successfully.
