One day, out of the blue, one of my Blink cameras had a green light turn on and when I checked the app, the camera was no longer on the list of cameras.
I needed to keep an eye on the house while I was gone because I was expecting the contractors who were going to work on my electrical system in the next few days.

When I checked out online on why this could happen, I found that it could be traced to a number of reasons.
So I tried troubleshooting the camera myself before calling support, and I was successfully able to fix it.
You’ll find below everything that I had found that actually works to fix your Blink camera if it doesn’t work anymore.
If your Blink camera doesn’t work, you can try restarting or resetting the Sync Module for your cameras. You can also reset your router if your internet connection is having issues.
How To Know What’s Wrong With Your Camera
Blink cameras are pretty good at what they do, but like every piece of tech, they are not immune to problems.
These issues can be attributed to a whole bunch of reasons, but at the end of the day, all of them don’t let you use the camera as intended.
Fortunately, Blink cameras come with an LED status light that roughly tells you what the issue is.
But you’ll need to know what to look for to understand what your camera is trying to tell you.
The following table will give you an idea about what each colored light on the Blink camera means. The indications may vary from model to model.
My Blink Camera Has A Steady Red Light
A steady red light on your Blink camera usually means that it isn’t connected to your Wi-Fi.
Check out the steps below if the LED on your camera is showing a steady red color.
Restart the Blink App
The Blink app can freeze or become unresponsive at times due to which you might not be able to control your Blink camera.
Whether you are using an Android device or iPhone, just close the Blink application from the recent apps and then try re-launching it.
To do this:
- Swipe from the bottom of your phone and hold it for a few seconds if you’re on iPhone. Tap the Recents button or swipe from the bottom right edge of your phone if you’re on Android.
- Close the Blink app by swiping the app up, or tapping the close button.
- Launch the app again and try accessing your cameras.
If the problem is not fixed, you can uninstall and then reinstall the Blink app.
If that doesn’t work, you can also try restarting your phone and launching the app again.
Reset your Wi-Fi Router
If your Blink camera is not working due to internet connectivity issues, it should be showing a green light that’s either steady or blinking.
You can fix this issue by restarting your Wi-Fi router.
All Wi-Fi routers have a reset button on them. It is usually a small button, on the back or at the side of the device.
Press and hold the reset button until the router restarts.

When the router finishes the reset you’ll need to add your cameras to your Wi-Fi again in some cases because resets might also reset the password to your Wi-Fi.
Reset the Sync Module
Your Blink camera is managed by the Sync Module which connects it to your home’s system, to the internet, and to the Blink servers as well.
Resetting the Sync Module is considered to be the ultimate one-shot solution to fix any kind of technical difficulties.
Follow these steps to reset the Sync Module:
- Locate the reset button at the side of the Sync Module.
- Long press it until you see the LED blinking red.
- Release the button.
- Wait for the device to complete the reset process.
- The LED will blink green followed by blue.
- Let the module complete the setup process.
- Once the previous step is complete, delete the existing sync module from the Blink app and configure it again.
What If The Red Light Is Blinking?
If the red light is blinking, it can indicate that the battery is low.
It could also mean that the camera is setting up. Which you shouldn’t be seeing again after the initial setup.
To fix the blinking red light, follow the steps below.
Change The Batteries
If you see a blinking red light on your Blink camera and use batteries to power it, then it might be running out of juice.
They usually last up to two years, so if you haven’t changed the batteries after a couple of years ,then that might be what’s causing the issue.
You can check the Blink app where the thumbnail for the camera in question will tell you if it needs replacement.
If you have a Blink Outdoor or Indoor camera:
- Remove the screw holding the back cover in place with a coin or a screwdriver.
- Gently pry off the back cover.
- Remove the old batteries and replace them with new 1.5V AA batteries.
- Put the back cover on.
For Blink XT and XT2 models:
- Slide the gray switch on the back of the camera and hold it in the direction of the arrow.
- At the same time, pull up the battery cover.
- Take out the old batteries and replace them with new 1.5V AA batteries.
Blink Minis don’t use batteries, so if you have one of those, you can skip this step.
Try a Different Power Outlet
If you power your Blink cameras using the USB adapter, then power delivery issues can also cause the cameras to not work as intended.
This will stop you from accessing your cameras because they are no longer receiving the power they need.
Use a different power adapter for your cameras or change out the USB cables to see if that fixes the problem.
If it is possible, try running the cameras that have issues on battery to make sure it is a USB issue, and not a more widespread problem.
A Green Light Is Steady or Blinking On The Camera
If the light on the camera is blinking or steady green, the camera is currently experiencing connectivity issues.
To fix these connectivity issues, check out what I did.
Move your Blink Camera Closer to the Sync Module
If your Blink cameras are placed at a significant distance from the Sync Module, they might face connectivity issues.
Since the Sync Module is responsible for coordinating the cameras in your home’s security system, the placement of the module is crucial.
If your Blink camera is not working, try placing it close to the Sync Module and that might fix your issue.

Blink recommends you place all your cameras within a hundred feet, which is the effective distance the Sync Module needs to communicate with the cameras.
If you cannot seem to cover all your cameras with a single Sync Module, you can get another one and add the cameras that are outside of the 100 feet range.
Add the new Sync Module to your Blink app to control those cameras.
Restart The Sync Module
You can also fix the Sync Module by power cycling it.
The steps that you’ll find below are very simple but extremely effective in solving Blink camera issues.
- Locate the power adapter of the Sync Module.
- Turn off the power to the socket and remove the plug.
- Wait for a few minutes before you plug it back in.
- Turn on the switch and let the sync Module finish its setup.
- After the setup is complete, it will be ready to use.
In case this does not work, reset the Blink Sync Module.
Reset your Blink Camera
You can also try resetting your Blink cameras, but a manual reset is only required for Blink Mini models.
To reset a Blink Mini:
- Long press the reset button present on the button of the device, for about 5 seconds.
- Let go when the lights start flashing red and blue.
- The light will slowly blink blue when you do this.
- Add your camera to the Blink app again.
To reset other Blink camera models, simply reset the Sync Module by pressing and holding the reset button on its side.
After the reset is complete, add all your cameras back to the Sync Module
Take Care Of The Sync Module
The Sync Module is the most important part of your Blink camera system which lets you watch live feeds and receive motion alerts on your phone.
Blink cameras and the Sync Module itself require good connectivity with your Wi-Fi network to perform optimally.
To ensure your Blink camera has a strong internet connection, you must place the sync module in an appropriate position and check for signal strength using the Blink app.
Make sure all your cameras are within 100 feet of a Sync Module.
A single Sync Module can only control ten cameras, so get another one if you have more,
If all these fixes do not solve your problem, you can always reach out for professional help from Blink’s support team.
