After seeing the super cute horned Monster Cake from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, I knew I had to make one for myself in real life.

The in-game recipe is deceptively simple, and only uses Cane Sugar, Goat Butter, Monster Extract, and Tabantha Wheat.
But in real life, making a cake without basic ingredients like eggs isn’t going to end too well. So I had to make some adjustments:
Here are the ingredients you’ll need for your own Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Monster Cake.
Ingredients
MOIST CAKE
- 1 whole butter
- 1 1/2 cup caster sugar
- 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 3 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 4 eggs
- 2/4 cup milk
- 4 teaspoon Monster Vanilla extract
- 1 cup cocoa powder
CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
- 1 8-ounce pack of cream cheese
- 1 block butter, softened
- 4 teaspoons milk
- 1/2 cup Ube powder
FONDANT
- Marshmallows
- Purple food coloring
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- Tylose powder
EQUIPMENT
- Electric mixer
- Sifter
- Mixing bowls
- Spatula
- Measuring cups
- Wooden pin
- Knife
- Cookie cutters (optional)
- String knife (optional)
- Dough cutter (optional)
The first thing you need to do is spread lard on the 6-inch baking pans, then line it with baking sheets so that the cake batter doesn’t stick to it.
Next, cut the block of butter into cubes and put it into the bowl of the electric mixer. You can use a regular butter knife for this if you don’t have the Master Sword on hand.
Next, preheat the oven to 325 degrees for the cake batter.

While the oven is warming up, pour the caster sugar into the measuring cups, so that it’s ready to be mixed in with the butter.
Use your mix to gradually mix the sugar, eggs, and butter.
Set the batter aside and sift the all-purpose flour and the baking powder. Then gradually add the sifted ingredients and the milk to the mix.
At this point, the batter should look thick and yellow, with minimal to no lumps.
Add a tablespoon of Monster Extract. If you don’t have any Monster Extract, you can use vanilla extract.
To make the cake chocolatey, sift some cocoa powder into the existing batter.
You’ll need two cakes to make the top and bottom parts, so pour the mixture evenly into two pans, then smooth and even out the surface.
Now they’re ready to go into the oven!
After 30 minutes, poke the center of each cake with a chopstick to see if the batter has risen and if it’s done on the inside. If your stick comes out without any batter stuck to it, it’s ready.
Set aside the cake and let it cool down.

For the fondant, put some marshmallows into a bowl and steam it for a few minutes. The magic of creating fondant lies in adding water to the bowl of marshmallows, and letting it melt on medium heat for a couple of minutes.
After melting the marshmallows, add it to a bowl of sifted powdered sugar and mix the two to produce the fondant for the horns of the cake.

Knead the fondant and roll it in Tylose powder with the wooden pin until it is smooth and malleable. Add some purple food coloring at this point to match the color of the horns in-game.
Set the fondant aside, and let it rest for about ten minutes. Now it’s time to make the cream cheese frosting!
Cut the butter and cream cheese into cubed, smaller pieces and put them into the mixer.
Next, add half a cup of sifted powdered sugar to the mix.
Gradually add the rest of the powdered sugar and a cup of milk to the mixture.
After all the ingredients have been thoroughly mixed, Add some Ube powder for flavoring and color. This cream cheese will be the filling in the middle of the layered cake.
For the other batch of cream cheese, mix in some cocoa powder until it’s light brown. This will be the frosting on top of the cake.
Your purple fondant should be ready to be molded now into monster horns now. Here’s the pair I made:
Now it’s time to construct the cake. Put the Ube and chocolate cream cheese frosting into a cake icer and start decorating!
To attach the horns, you’ll want to put some sticks inside them so they’ll sit on top of the cake.
Here’s the finished product:
This recipe serves 5-6 people, and is great as a dessert, or when you’re in need of a snack while playing your favorite action-adventure game.
