Let us begin with the nutritional value of chia seeds. “Two tablespoons of chia seeds (around 28 grams) will provide 4.7 grams of protein, 5 grams of omega-3 and 9.8 grams of fibre. Chia is also an excellent source of phosphorus, manganese, magnesium, calcium and iron,” Neha Patodia and Nupur Arya, founders of Nutrimend, said.
“It can boost the protein intake of vegans or people following plant-based diets. If added strategically to the diet, it can also be beneficial to diabetics and people suffering from glucose sensitivity to maintain stable blood sugar levels,” they added.
Eating chia pudding can also help relieve constipation. “The high fibre content in chia seeds could positively impact the intestinal functions and help relieve constipation. Although there are many delightful ways to use chia seeds, it is perhaps most famous for its use in puddings,” Neha Patodia and Nupur Arya said.
IMPROVES HEART HEALTH
Dr Namita Nadar, Head Nutritionist at Fortis Hospital, Noida, also echoed similar thoughts and called chia pudding a healthy breakfast option and shared the ample benefits it brings along.
“Chia pudding might help you improve your heart health as the seeds used comprise antioxidants. One such antioxidant present in chia seed is quercetin, which plays a key role in protecting your body from free radicals. These free radicals are mainly unstable molecules that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and tumour growth,” Dr Nadar said.

She also added that chia seeds are extremely rich in fibre that helps lower blood pressure as well as cholesterol levels. People suffering from heart-related complications can benefit from it.
WEIGHT LOSS
Having chia pudding is a great option if you are trying to lose those extra kilos. “While supporting digestive health, fibre may help people feel satiated for longer. This can make high-fibre foods crucial for those trying to reach a balanced weight. A regular meal including chia seeds greatly supports weight management with its nutritional value also an add-on.”
IMPROVES DIGESTION
“Chia seeds contain a decent amount of insoluble fibre that tends to remain intact when passing through the digestive system. This key character to stay intact makes it crucial for averting constipation. It also supports the regularity of a healthy supportive tract, while also supporting regular bowel movements that aid in the excretion of toxins through stool and bile,” Dr Nadar said.
CONTROLS SPIKE IN BLOOD SUGAR
“Various studies have observed proof that chia seeds slow down the quick release of glucose by the body, thus reducing the spike in blood sugar that comes after consuming carbohydrates. This can be very beneficial for individuals with type-2 diabetes,” said Dr Nadar while talking about the health benefits of eating chia pudding.
