It seems like every year the NHL adds something to it’s pre and regular season schedule to get it’s fans excited and more engaged. The 2017-18 season will showcase some new series’ and if you’re a Flames fan, you’ll be disappointed. Calgary is once again left out of the NHL special festivities, but if you love hockey in general there’s plenty to digest for next season.
2017 NHL China Games™ presented by O.R.G. Packaging – Sept. 21 and Sept. 23

In September, the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks will face off in the first-ever preseason games played in China as part of the 2017 NHL China Games™ presented by O.R.G. Packaging. On Sept. 21, the Kings will play host to the Canucks at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, and on Sept. 23, Vancouver will play host to Los Angeles at Wukesong Arena in Beijing. The pair of games is part of the National Hockey League’s long-term business strategy in China and advances the NHL’s commitment to grow the game globally, while furthering the League’s international strategy.
2017 Kraft Hockeyville™ – Sept. 24 (United States) and Sept. 25 (Canada)
The NHL begins its season in North America with the ultimate grassroots event that gives communities across both Canada and the U.S. the opportunity of hosting an NHL preseason game. Belle Vernon, Pa. is this year’s winning community in the U.S., and on Sept. 24, will host a preseason game between the St. Louis Blues and Pittsburgh Penguins. More than 1,300 nominations across the U.S. were submitted for the third annual U.S. campaign. O’Leary, Prince Edward Island is this year’s winning community in Canada, and on Sept. 25 will host a game between the New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators. Nearly 3,000 nominations across Canada were submitted for the eleventh annual campaign. Since launching in Canada in 2006, Kraft Hockeyville™ has positively impacted 82 communities with over $3 million awarded in arena upgrades across Canada and the U.S.
2017 SAP NHL Global Series™ – Nov. 10 and Nov. 11
The Colorado Avalanche and Ottawa Senators will face off in a pair of regular-season games in Stockholm, Sweden on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11. The Avalanche and Senators will play each other at the Ericsson Globe on Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11. The 2017 SAP NHL Global Series™ will mark the sixth time the NHL has traveled to Europe to play regular-season games and the first such time since the 2011 Compuware NHL Premiere™, which took place in Berlin, Germany; Helsinki, Finland; and Stockholm, Sweden. These games reward the legion of loyal and passionate international fans by featuring some of the NHL’s biggest stars and generating interest in the League worldwide. The games between Colorado and Ottawa on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 will be the 21st and 22nd NHL regular-season games played in Europe. They also will be the seventh and eighth NHL regular-season games played in Sweden.
2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic™ – Dec. 16
On Dec. 16, the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic™ will featuring the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens outdoors at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. The game will pay tribute to a century of NHL® contests, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the League’s first games played on Dec. 19, 1917. The game falls within the League’s year-long NHL® Centennial festivities, Canada’s celebrations of 150 years of Confederation, and the 125th anniversary of the Stanley Cup®.
2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® – Jan. 1
On Jan. 1, the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® will feature the Buffalo Sabres® and New York Rangers® outdoors at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. This year’s edition will mark the 10-year anniversary of the first NHL Winter Classic®, which continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year.

2018 NHL All-Star – Jan 27-28
The League’s mid-season showcase will take place at Amalie Arena on Saturday, Jan. 27 and Sunday, Jan. 28 and will include the NHL All-Star Skills Competition™ and the NHL All-Star Game. The 2018 NHL All-Star returns to a 3-on-3 tournament format after successful games in Nashville (2016) and Los Angeles (2017). Under the tournament rules, the NHL All-Star Game will be divided into three 20-minute games, with star players from each NHL division making up the four All-Star teams: Pacific, Central, Atlantic, and Metropolitan.
2018 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™ – March 3
On March 3, the Washington Capitals will play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs outdoors at the 2018 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™ at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. Over the next several years, the League plans to stage a series of outdoor games at the venues of the other respective U.S. Service Academies.
Additional signature events for the 2017-18 NHL season will be announced at a later date.
